It was a quiet day, and quiet days were infrequent enough that Sabe fully intended to enjoy it. Her night had been … rough. With a towel on her arm, she stepped out into the pools at the Bellagio, glancing around with a practiced eye, taking count of how many people were present, where they were, where security was, and the quickest escape routes.
Once she was satisfied, she chose a spot where her back would be to a wall, and set her bag and towel on a table. She had a few ulterior motives for her choice in relaxation today and was exercising caution.
Slowly, aware of eyes on her, Sabe shrugged out of her robe, revealing a toned, tanned body in an expensive black bikini. She rubbed at her wrists, then sat on a chair and reached for the sunscreen.
The previous night had been one long event after another for Padme, and she was also extremely grateful for a day off. They were few and far enough between - and even when they did come, there was some truth to the phrase 'never not working'. A truth she knew her friend Sabe was well aware of when she stepped out of their dedicated cabana and watched Sabe take her seat.
There were moments where Padme fully believed Sabe worked even harder than she did.
Picking up a tray of snacks and beverages she'd prepared, she made her way over to Sabe's chair and carefully sat down next to her. Her own swimsuit was white, a nice contrast against Sabe's bikini, and she'd wrapped a colorful sari around her hips. People were already shooting admiring looks in their direction; Padme ignored them for the moment. "I have fresh fruit, cheeses, and your favorite juice here. Hopefully I can convince you to take some refreshment."
Sabe watched Padme approach from behind the safety of her sunglasses. Sunglasses were useful; besides being fashionable, they could hide what one was thinking, and also where one was looking. A valuable advantage in their line of work and a valuable advantage right this moment.
Squirting some lotion into her palm, she tilted her head in acknowledgement, "Since you went to so much effort how could I say no?"
"I was hoping you wouldn't say no. Though you should know that I was prepared to convince you if it came to that," Padme said. She couldn't help but give Sabe one of her most winning smiles, the kind that usually negotiated for her when words had failed to work out.
She lowered her sunglasses just far enough to wink at her friend before setting the tray between them and making herself more comfortable. One long leg folded over the other, shiny from the lotion she'd applied to herself already. "Have you spotted anything interesting today?"
"And how exactly would you have done that?" Sabe started to rub the lotion over herself, though her mouth was suddenly dry enough that she really wanted that drink. She leaned forward, so that her mouth would be hidden from any possible onlookers as she lotioned up her legs, and then front until she was as shiny as Padme.
"There are three guards, casino security. Cameras are unchanged. Eight other guests around the pool, two in the jacuzzi on the other side. None of them are clients, not as of yet. One is of interest."
Sabe waggled the tube. "Got my back?"
"With all of my wiles and charm, of course," Padme teased. She made a quiet mental list of Sabe's gathered information while picking up a piece of apple to nibble on. It was a fun game to scan over the people and size them up herself; Could she pick out the same person Sabe found of interest?
She continued nibbling on her wedge of apple, setting it in her mouth to free up her hands as she took the tube from Sabe. "Always," she mumbled. There was a man in an extremely tight pair of swimming trunks lounging by the other side of the pool. He was deeply tanned with teeth whiter than natural, and an extremely expensive watch gleamed on his wrist.
He had definitely noticed them. She wondered if he was interesting enough while taking special care to rub lotion all over Sabe's backside.
Padme's hands were a special sort of strong and soft, and Sabe allowed herself a full five seconds to enjoy the feel on her skin. She enjoyed her job, sometimes.
"Spotted him?" She asked, voice hitching as Padme's hands stroked the small of her back. "I'll take that as a yes..."
While she knew it was a game, a show put on just for the potential target, Sabe still had to brace herself a little for Padme's special care. And yet, the moan she bit back and the sudden shudder that ran through her were anything but an act.
Wriggling into Padme's hands, she flopped her forehead onto her arm and breathed, "Russian ... Mafia. Have his name, but not who he's working for." If they could find who he was working for, they could get an in -- men like that very often hired women like them for events.
Sabe hated her job for those kind of events and sometimes because this wasn't real. This thing with Padme, the act they put on for others. But she'd do anything for Padme. Anything.
“Perhaps he’d like to take some refreshment, too,” Padme replied, in a way where the man could read her lips if he wished. Working with that sort of crowd was dangerous in many ways, but there was no end to the amount of information they could gather that way. It could be extremely profitable for them if they could navigate it safely enough.
They were both particularly adept at navigating dangerous waters at this point.
She patted her hand against Sabe one last time, swallowing down a bit of self-loathing over the way these shows constantly felt like using her. Sabe was one of her only friends in the world, and her only ally. “We have an appointment we just cannot miss later on, though. Let us not get so lost in entertaining him that we forget.”
Which was her way of setting them up with an escape plan. Today was supposed to be a day off, after all.
The only sign that Sabe's thoughts might be in turmoil was a slight crease to her brow, and that was a tick she'd picked up from being in Padme's shadow for so long. That pool looked better and better the longer this went on.
If she was honest with herself, she wanted an escape plan from this life. They couldn't keep it up forever, could they? And how much of this was actually helping people that needed it?
Giving herself a mental shake to get rid of those thoughts, Sabe rolled over and sat up, stretching languidly, "He can enjoy the view all he wants, but I wouldn't miss that appointment with you for the world."
Let him try to figure out what they were talking about. His mind would likely go places. That was fine, it would make it easier to con him tomorrow.
