WHO: Raina, Skye, & "The Doctor"
WHAT: Raina finally brings Skye to meet her father. However, he's far more interested in Raina having gone to help Coulson despite his protests.
WHEN: Not long after this
WHERE: Their Manhattan Lab
RATING: R; Violence & Emotional Abuse
Raina could barely believe it. She had gotten to a point where, even with Skye's insistence that she wanted to come, that she would never actually manage to get her here. But here they were, a cab ride and two buses later (Raina felt that they needed to be extra safe to avoid being tracked), standing in the main entrance to the lab. It was the nicer area, done up well for company and business even if it did still have a dank and uneasy feeling about it. But really, one couldn't be picky or draw attention when you were trying to stay below the radar in a place where your enemy was just a few blocks away from you, at best.
Turning to Skye, Raina settled a hand lightly on her shoulder before offering her a very soft smile, "Wait here. He prefers to have warning about situations like this. He can be a bit... emotional when taken by surprise, and that's probably the last thing that he wants you to have to deal with on top of your own," She said, trimming the facts just enough as to not unnerve Skye. Emotional was putting it lightly, but it still covered the situation as it stood. When he got upset, well... Raina preferred him not to be upset.
Slipping away from Skye, Raina moved into the labs, leaving the door cracked slightly behind her as there would be no sense in closing it. Spotting her mentor hunched over the operating table, Raina allowed herself a triumphant smile as she took a step forward toward him. But before she could even open her mouth, he was turning in a split second, grabbing her back the neck and slamming her against one of the walls.
"I told you not to go see him, but you went anyway. Didn't you?" He snarled, hands tightening on her throat in a way that made Raina squirm under him. He'd always been care before to be threatening but not dangerous, just enough to get the message across but not leave any marks. But at the moment, she was finding it difficult to breathe. "He's one of them, Raina! I can't believe you would do this! KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW!" His grip slacked, even if his temper didn't, allowing Raina to take a gasping breath but tightening back before she could get any words out. "They took her, and yet, instead of bringing her to me, you help them, him, and continue to delay. You know what happens to those who disappoint me, Raina. Why must you make me regret taking you in anymore than I already do?"
The last words were calm, collected, a lot more pointed and focused than the rest as he pulled back from her with a sneer, leaving Raina to breathe heavily as she rubbed her neck, eyes wide as she stared at him. She had known that he would be angry over Coulson, over disobeying, but he'd always been restrained with her. But she supposed, she could only push so far.
"He needs to know," Raina said. "It's killing him."
"THEN HE DIES!" The outburst was enough to send Raina back against the wall, attempting to press herself flat lest he feel like lashing out. "The rest of them are expendable. You know that as well as I. She's the only one that matters. And you continue to fail."
"Except when I don't," Raina said, stressing the statement with a look towards the door.
It luckily only took him a moment to realize her meaning, the color draining from his face even as his expression contorted with anger, hand coming up and striking Raina across the face, "WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING?!" He roared before a sudden panic seemed to grip him, hands raking through his hair as he muttered, "She can't see me like this. She can't... Not this way," before beating a retreat from the lab, leaving Raina quietly stunted.
