When he first received the text from Raina, he had considered leaving her to the bed she made for one hot minute. He's scrapped projects -- and people -- for less. Because Raina suddenly deciding to let herself be incarcerated and taken to Avengers Tower, of all the godforsaken places? That had definitely not been the plan. He hated when others strayed from the plan.
And to expect him to extract her from a 90-story building that housed not only the Avengers, but Stark Global Security and what was left of SHIELD? How suicidal did she think he was?
But, never let it be said that he couldn't rise to the challenge. While he didn't enjoy going off plan, that didn't mean he couldn't think on his feet. He didn't get to be a world-class billionaire by not being smart, nimble, and bold, nor necessarily playing it safe.
And so it was he who flew to New York after a week and a half (to demonstrate his displeasure). It was he who monitored Audrey Nathan's whereabouts in the city. It was he who'd handle this one personally, because if you wanted something done right, you had to do it yourself. Clearly.
He tracked Audrey down to a local coffee shop first, tailed her all the way back to the tower, and while she was in the lobby, inverted his ring so that the small needle attached to it faced inwards and made his move.
"Ms Nathan? Audrey Nathan, latest cellist to join the New York Philharmonic?" Ian enthused with the full arsenal of his charm as he slowly crossed off the distance between them and extended his hand. "I'm a huge fan of yours from Portland!"
Raina was so going to pay for this.
