WHAT: An announcement. Science! Senators! Spectators! WHEN: Monday 17th of August (but playing out from NOW!) WHERE: The New York Hall of Science, Queens WHO: Members of the public! And some other characters. If your character would have a reason or desire to attend the event, please join in. :) NOTES: This was meant to go up yesterday, but I am a failboat. Please imagine there has been plenty of publicity towards this event.
In the vein of crowd sourced scientific innovations, NYSCI, in collaboration with NYU, is announcing its intention to launch a programme that will see gifted children being given AP-level credits as they comb through the extraterrestrial data that was made available to the public during the SHIELD leak. To make the announcement today is New York Senator JR Willis, a headliner for his sharp critique on the role the Avengers have to play in the contemporary world, but equally known for his push for educational innovation (and, once upon a time, his talent as a college line-backer).
The New York Hall of Science was conceived at the 1964 World Fair and has since been a major proponent of interactive science, with an ever strengthening agenda for getting children and young adults more involved in the world around them. NYSCI is very excited to be trialling this project; after the success of its NYSCI After Dark with Saving the Hubble and the Amateur Astronomers Association, and in keeping with its roots, it’s keen to push further into the barely-known world beyond that of Planet Earth.
The NYSCI’s iconic Great Hall is set up to welcome members of the public, with glossy brochures set up on tables before the displays -- cleverly undulating across the towering walls of the space -- which illustrate the highlights of verifiable alien contact. Certainly there is a security detail for the Senator, who is flanked by men in various shades of dark suits, his closest bodyguard scarred and quiet; but Willis himself is a smiling presence, answering questions before he even makes it to the podium for the official announcement, the lights falling and leaving the room doused in deep blue as he takes his position.
OOC NOTES: Hi guys! Just some quick ~notes~ in case you're wondering if you can get involved in whatever's going down! To help galvanise the non-powered vs superpowered issue further, a bit of a clusterfuck will be going down when an attempt on the Senator's life will be made by the Winter Soldier. Because this is in public, in an area populated with innocent (young!) civilians, you can see how this can turn public opinion. ;) Anyway, please feel free to have your characters, if they would have any reason to, drop by the museum for the start of the announcement! And then react accordingly.
Pre-set things that will happen are:
Steve will hail in the Avengers on Bucky-watch... and possibly other members of the gang if it looks like things are getting out of hand.
