So you're telling me that four hundred and eighty-seven standard years ago, this planet didn't even have a name, yet? Come on, that's a little much. I realize that space travel here is limited but, really.
Okay. I'm going to see if I can explain this, although I doubt I'll do it much justice.
Everything that you see - the trees, the ground, the buildings, the people - all of this is on an enormous spherical shaped object called a planet. Your planet is named Earth. It's located in a solar system with a lot of other planets, all of whom circle the sun. The moon, which you can best see at night, circles the Earth. The stars are other solar systems, all of which make up your galaxy.
Did any of that make any sense to you? If not, I can see about maybe finding a few sites that will explain it better. Where I'm from, the basic understanding of the planet you live on and the other known ones is as second-nature as breathing, so it's not very easy for me to try and explain it to someone who doesn't even know what the terms mean.
