The argument works both ways, sweetheart. You can't be certain that your protections won't fail just once, leaving that werewolf to go on a murderous rampage before its caught. That means, for all your protections, the person who lived through being a murderer will have to deal with that guilt if no one was allowed to put the werewolf down.
