Running on the beach had become a daily habit for Rose. The physical exercise felt good, but it was also a piece of her own life - the only piece she really still had. She'd been settling into everything else here, lending a hand with the construction and sometimes the cleaning or the gardening. Her strength and endurance came in handy for the hauling of heavy supplies, too. None of it was glamorous work, but she was starting to feel like she was making a contribution to community here and that felt pretty good. She hadn't been running for long when she saw Oliver Queen coming from the opposite direction and she quickly slowed her steps. Oliver was another reason she was starting to settle more easily. He'd started out as a sparring partner and turned into someone she trusted, someone she could really talk to. She hadn't told him everything, yet, but she'd shared more with him than anyone else. There'd been some flirting and some making out, too, sure, but mostly she appreciated his friendship and the feeling that she could trust him with anything. “Hey, you,” she greeted him with a grin, stopping in front of him and holding up a hand to shield her eyes from the sun. It was early morning but not so early that the sun was still low. “Are to headed anywhere important or do you wanna run with me?” she asked him, sweetening the pot with the promise of a challenge. “I bet you can't beat me to the waterfall.” Oliver was usually an early riser, party because he didn’t sleep very much. He’d had trouble sleeping ever since he’d returned from Lian Yu and then for the last two years much of his work so to speak, had taken place under the cover of darkness. Since he’d been here though, sleep was coming easier but he still woke up before sunrise most days. The running was something he enjoyed, he didn’t do it much at home but he also had a gym to work out in. Here it was not only good for the physical activity but it gave him time to think. And lately he’d been thinking a lot about the two women he couldn’t get out of his head. Felicity and Rose. The fact that Felicity was there wasn’t a surprise, she’d been there for a good while but Rose? That was a surprised, he hadn’t expected to feel so connected to her yet he did. Not that he minded but he still worried about the difference in their ages despite the fact that Rose was much more mature than any teenager Oliver could think of, including himself at the same age. When he saw her, he stopped and smiled. “You’re up early too, I see.” He was happy to see her, it was always nice to run with someone else if possible but there wasn’t usually anyone else around except sometimes Sara, this early. “Sure, running with you sounds good but you really think you can beat me to the waterfall?” “Hell, yeah, I do.” Rose exuded confidence as she smirked at him. You'd think he would have learned a lesson about underestimating her by now. They'd sparred a few times since their first session and while they were pretty well-matched, Rose usually came out on top. Granted, part of that was her willingness to cheat like crazy, but all was fair in love and war. She really didn't have any regrets. “We should make it interesting,” she continued with a grin. “What are you gonna give me when I win?” Maybe she was being a little too cocky, but she'd trained her ass off to be strong and fast enough to beat or outrun a strigoi. She was pretty sure she could take Oliver Queen in a race. “Why don’t you wait and see what I’ll give you if you win,” he said with a smirk. Oliver knew what he wanted but he wasn’t sure if Rose would want it too. At least this way, he could leave it open ended. “Let me surprise you.” “You mean when I win,” she corrected him with a smile. Tilting her head to the side, she pretended to consider it for a moment. “Okay,” she agreed. “I like surprises, but you'd better make it a good one.” Despite her teasing, she was pretty sure her reward would be pretty good. Not to mention the bragging rights from kicking his ass. She never got tired of being able to rub it in. Already, she was thinking of all the fun ways she could mock him after her stunning victory. Flirt later, race now, she decided, allowing herself just a brief smirk before she took off for the waterfall as a hard sprint. He laughed but then he took off after her. Oliver didn’t really care if he won or not since no matter what happened, he’d already decided what would happen when they got to the waterfall. At least he hoped it would happen but that would be up to Rose of course. Somehow he was pretty sure she wouldn’t object though. It turned out to be a better race than he thought it would be and he beat her by about a second. Grabbing her he pulled her under the spray, laughing at her facial expression. “Well what do you know, almost a dead heat but I had you by a tiny bit so you get your surprise if you want it.” Rose would have kicked his ass, but she wasn’t that used to running on sand yet and she managed to trip halfway there. She didn’t actually fall, managing to catch herself mid-stumble, but it slowed her down just enough to let Oliver catch up before she could reach the waterfall. “You just got lucky,” she told him, but she was grinning up at him as the water soaked through her clothing. She laughed when he said she got a surprise for him beating her. “I don’t think that’s the way it’s supposed to work,” she teased him, “but I do like surprises.” At the moment, standing under the waterfall with him, she was kind of having trouble caring whether she’d technically lost their race. He pulled her close and without saying anything kissed her, teasing her lips with his tongue, licking the water off them, his hands moving over her body. They were soaking wet and there wasn’t a lot left to the imagination with their clothes plastered to them but Oliver didn’t care. He liked the way she felt against him and despite the quick flash of guilt remembering that she was only eighteen, he pushed it aside and put his hands in the small of her back, pushing up her shirt and touching her wet skin. If this was what he wanted for winning the race, Rose definitely wasn’t about to complain. She pressed against him as she kissed him back and any guilt she felt over the fact that she technically had a boyfriend or that she knew he was sort of with someone else kind of seriously here was short-lived. Rose wasn’t someone who really thought things through often. She lived in the moment, rarely thinking about consequences of her actions. Right now, the only thing she could focus on was how good it felt to be kissing him again. She’d thought about it a lot since the last time they’d made out. There was a time she’d been convinced she could never be interested in sex again. After Dimitri, it just hadn’t seemed possible. Then she’d really, really wanted to with Adrian, but the thread of getting pregnant had stopped them that night. Now, though? With Oliver, there was no risk of real consequences. Pregnancy would be impossible until she was ready to ask Arva to make it possible for her and even then, she knew it would have to be an agreement between the both of them. There was no real reason not to take that step with Oliver and she realized that she really, really wanted to. She broke the kiss for a second, but it was just long enough to reach for the hem of her t-shirt so she could pull it over her head. Before she’d even tossed it away from them, her lips were back on his, picking up right where they’d left off. He hadn’t been wearing a shirt to begin with so when she pressed against him and he felt her bare breasts against his body, Oliver moaned and reached up to touch them as they kissed. There was no question what he wanted but he pulled back and looked at her, brushing a lock of wet hair off her cheek. “Are you sure, Rose?” he asked. If she wasn’t, he was fine with that, this was still amazing and he liked being with her but he wouldn’t expect her to take the next step if she wasn’t certain. It took Rose a second to focus on what the hell he was actually asking. The way he was touching and kissing her kind of made it hard to think at all. That was fine by her, but then it was pretty obvious that he was waiting for some kind of answer. “This is why we’re here, isn’t it?” she joked breathlessly. Then she noticed the look of concern in her eyes. It touched her in a different way. Everyone talked about sex so casually here, like it was no big deal, but she could see that he got it. He understood why she hadn’t just wanted to jump into it here. She’d kind of known that from the way he hadn’t pushed for anything more the other night in her shelter, but it was even more obvious now and seeing that look in his eyes only made her like him more. “Yeah, I’m sure,” she told him firmly, nodding her head for emphasis. She’d been telling herself all week that she should just do it and get it over with, but that had nothing to do with her wanting to do it now. Despite the joke she’d just made, she didn’t want him because she thought this was what she was supposed to do, She just wanted him. They could have been anywhere, someplace that wasn’t called “sex island,” and she’d still want this just as much. There was a time when Oliver wouldn’t have been concerned with anything other than his own pleasure but that man didn’t exist anymore. He knew that Rose understood his feelings for Felicity but that he also cared about her and felt a connection with her. If he hadn’t, he would have never let things get this far. He didn’t say anything, when she answered him, instead he reached for her taking her face in his hands and kissing her, pulling her against him, a low moan coming from his throat when their bare skin touched. As their bodies came back together, Rose couldn’t help being glad she’d waited for this moment. Maybe she didn’t love Oliver the way she had Dimitri or even the way she did Adrian, but there was definitely something between them and she realized she wanted that kind of connection. It made every kiss and touch feel better, somehow, so share this with someone she cared about, someone she trusted. And with that thought, she stopped thinking, giving herself over completely to him and focusing on enjoying her time with him. |
