this place really was paradise

After everything he'd been through with losing his aunt and uncle, the only family he had ever known, losing Ben, destroying the Death Star, Luke needed a vacation. Arva’s offer had seemed too good to be true. That feeling of responsibility had almost made him say no, but the promise to be returned to the same point in time whenever he was ready to come home sold him. Well, that and he'd always been a sucker for a pretty face, especially when it was someone who seemed to need his help.

The first thing that struck him about his new surroundings was how much water their was. Sand was familiar to him, but even that was different. There was moisture in the air that felt amazing and the sound of crashing waves was one he'd never heard before. Luke closed his eyes and reached out with his feelings the way Obi Wan had been trying to teach him to do. He could actually feel the life surrounding him through the Force and it made the experience of the waves, the water, the salty air all that more powerful.

This place really was paradise.

It was hot out and his clothing felt heavy after a few minutes of walking, so he started to shed some of what he wore, until he was down to his pants. Feet bare, he could feel the sand between his toes. He tied the articles he'd shed onto a bundle her could carry, making sure his lightsaber was still secure at his waist and then he set off. Somehow, he knew which way to go, which direction would lead him toward the other people here.

Mara was just leaving her shelter when she felt it. An odd shift in her head, not danger but a sense that something was different. She started walking in the direction it seemed to come from and that was when she saw him. It was Luke, he was back and he wasn't wearing a shirt. Not that it mattered or anything or even that she had noticed....because why would she notice after all?

She picked up her pace until she was just behind him and called out "Hey! Skywalker! You think you can just up and leave then show back up like nothing happened? And half naked too. " Not that she had noticed, Not at all.

Luke felt a strange pull, but he didn't understand it. It was similar to what he felt around Leia, but somehow different. Before he could really stop to question it further, though, there was a red-haired girl coming into view. She looked to be close to his age. She was pretty, he thought, and definitely the source of that strange feeling.

Before he could really think to much about that, she was speaking, saying his name like she knew him. Luke stared at her for a minute, trying to figure out how that was possible.

"What?" He blinked and then stared some more. "How'd you know my name?"

"Because you were here when I got here," she said, rolling her eyes. "but you left. You don't remember anything?" Mara hadn't had anyone that she knew leave and come back but she assumed that since you were here as a volunteer, you'd remember being here before. That didn't seem to be true because Luke was looking at her as if she'd just fallen off a bantha.

She shook her head, trying to get rid of the strange sensation she was feeling. Had she felt it before? She couldn't remember but things had been so strange that first week with the snow and meeting new people and maybe it had been there but it hadn't been this strong. Then again maybe she just hadn't been as in tune with herself.

"I'm Mara. We knew each other when you were here before. You were helping me build my shelter actually just before you skipped out," she tried to decide if she should tell him what they had discovered and decided that she should because if she didn't tell him, someone else would. "we're from the same place. We'd figured that out before. I live on Coruscant though but yeah, same galaxy." Same Empire, same Emperor, she wasn't about to tell him that part.

"I was not! I think I'd remember something like that!" There was no way that could be true, even if there was a part of him that could almost sense it, coupled with a strange feeling that he couldn't figure out. It wasn't like what he'd felt around anyone else, even if he felt like he should recognize it. Like it was something he'd felt before, in a different way.

"You're from Coruscant?" Luke knew where that was, of course, even if he'd never actually been there. How strange, that there would be someone else from home here. Maybe that was what the strange, almost familiar feeling was about. He didn't know, but he thought he'd figure it out.

"Well you were here and you don't remember. I heard that sometimes people leave and come back and remember but some don't. I guess you're on of the ones who doesn't." In a way, Mara was a little relieved. At least they could get to know each other without any preconceived notions. Or him remembering anything she might have let slip although she was sure she hadn't.

"Yeah, that's where I live," she said. "What about you? Where do you come from?" Keep the subject on him, that was the way to handle this. Draw him out and hope he didn't get curious enough to ask her anything personal.

"That's weird. Why wouldn't I remember that?" It sounded really weird, but he guessed this whole thing was kind of weird, with being brought to an island where he was supposed to help build a new society and, apparently, have a lot of sex. Maybe he should just kind of go with it.

"I grew up on Tatooine, but I guess I don't really live there anymore," he answered. The only family he'd ever known was dead. He didn't have any real reason to go back there.

He was definitely curious about her. He felt this weird connection to her that he couldn't really explain. It didn't make sense, unless some unconscious part of him just remembered her from before. That had to be it, he decided.

"Tatooine, huh? That explains a lot. You're a farmboy," she grinned at him. "Basically there are three types there. Hutts, criminals and moisture farmers. You're obviously not a Hutt, you don't strike me as a criminal so that makes you a farmboy."

Mara laughed. "At least you don't have to farm moisture around here. There's more than enough water. Except we can't drink the ocean water. There's a lake and a river though.And someone rigged up plumbing so we don't have to go to the bathroom in the woods."
