She was starting to back away, maybe she felt intimidated. Maybe she thought she was being a pain. Sara didn't think she had said anything to discourage her, but she hadn't come right out and agreed.
"You're right, I am busy." she agreed with a nod. "Doing what I signed up for. Helping people here." Since she had zero intentions of ever having children, that was no in the cards for her, helping develop this society was the only thing she had to focus on. But helping the build this place consisted of many different things.
"And you're right, I did say." She reached for another shoot, and began pulling off the twigs of that one as well. "I'm a big fan of women learning to take care of themselves, and I'm here to help build this community. If you want to learn to defend yourself, that kind of goes hand in hand with both, doesn't it?"
Sara kept working, picking branches and tossing them into a pile from her seated position on the ground. "I can teach you self-defense. I'll warn you I'm not a particularly nice teacher. It will be work." She'd have to push herself. If she became pregnant, she may have to stop, depending on how fast Lydia learned what she wanted to learn. There were some things Sara would not teach her, she'd have to draw a line somewhere when it came to what skills she'd be willing to pass onto someone.
