Briseis hadn't slept more than two hours in a row since Keri had been born. She didn't resent it, as she adored her daughter, but she was starting to feel it. Still, when the little one woke up and cried in the middle of the night, Bri was up in a flash, taking the baby from the roughly constructed crib and bringing her into the bed with them. Most nights, Keri ended up sleeping with them, because it was simply easier for Bri to nurse her - and get a little rest of her own - if the baby was beside her instead of in a crib. And it made her feel better to feel her tiny, warm little body beside her and know that she was safe and that she was breathing. She'd kept herself awake the entire first night just watching her little chest rise and fall.
Taking off her blouse, she guided Keri to a nursing position and smiled down at the little one with motherly adoration as she nursed. She honestly couldn't imagine a baby being any more perfect than this one.
