Hearing Christine talk about the baby brought it all home for Nyota, what it was they were expected to do here. A part of her wondered what she'd been thinking, but she reminded herself that it didn't need to happen until she was ready. She'd just gotten here. She could take her time to take those steps.
Her thoughts focused on Christine again when she told her about Pike. Her face filled with shock and then sympathy for what her friend had gone through. Losing Pike and then losing the baby. It made her own troubles seem so minor by comparison.
"Oh, sweetie, I wish you'd told me," she said with no trace of judgement or anger. She understood why Christine had kept it all a secret, but she still wish she'd known. Her best friend had been going through all that and she hadn't been there for her. She hadn't even known it was happening.
