McCoy wasn't sure what to think of this place. It had seemed like a good idea at the time, a trip of an island paradise where he could escape the tedium of space. A part of him had also just been curious. The project they were running here sounded intriguing. It hardly seemed like enough to make him agree to the trip, but he honestly couldn't tell you what he'd been thinking when he said yes. Probably that this was just Jim’s kind of thing and someone needed to be there to make sure he stayed out of trouble. Maybe that he could stand to get a little action, himself, but he wasn't sure that was something he wanted to admit that.

The dizziness and general disorientation had worn off by the time he found the main camp. Finding out Jim was here hadn't been a surprise, even if he was surprised to find that they were from different points in their timeline. He supposed it wasn't that weird considering the rest of this. This whole situation was pretty bizarre.

He found the community center without a lot of trouble. Stepping inside, he surveyed the space and nodded approvingly. It wasn't exactly like home; the technology alone was inferior compared to that of his time, but he recognized the usefulness of what they had here already. After exploring a little more, he found one of the armchairs and took a seat while he waited for Jim to arrive.

Jim was very happy to see that Bones had shown up. Having his best friend around would only enhance the experience. He had been friendly with some of the other men, sure, but with Bones he was much more comfortable. He couldn't wait to tell him everything that had happened so far and to have someone to talk to moving forward.

He walked into the community center to find Bones waiting for him. He walked up behind him and clapped him on the shoulder. "Bones," he said. "Good to see you. Really glad you decided to join us."

McCoy grinned in spite of himself. It hadn't been long from his perspective since they'd met for a drink, but he was still happy to see his friend. While he might not admit to it out loud, he generally felt safer with Jim around. He might be good at getting them into trouble, but he was also good at getting them out of it.

“Jim, you look like you're staying out of trouble for once,” he commented. “Figured I'd better tag along and make sure it stays that way.”

Kirk laughed. "Oh yeah and I'm sure the sex and pleasure had nothing to do with it," he said. He shook his head. "I'll be honest. Being cooped up at Starfleet medical made me question a few things and I decided I needed to relax. The beautiful women isn't a bad thing either."

He was glad to be able to 'kiss and tell,' as it were, with Bones. While Jim didn't make a habit out of bragging about his conquests, he was still eager to tell all to someone. And he was pretty sure Christine Chapel wasn't that someone.

“Hey, I’m not the one who slept his way through the academy,” he teased back. He’d be lying if he said that wasn’t at least some of the appeal. He’d been a little gunshy since his divorce. Sure, he’d flirted with Carol, flirted with other women, too. He’d even hooked up with the odd woman in the years since. The idea of anything serious, though, that still scared him enough that he’d avoided anything more. Here? Well he’d have the ultimate excuse to get close but not too close to the opposite sex. It wasn’t a prospect he hated. That was for damn sure.

“Let me guess,” he said dryly, “You’ve already slept with half the women on the island.” He was half joking, but the truth was that he wouldn’t put it past him. Jim had a way with ladies of any species. He’d be surprised if he wasn’t extremely popular in a place like this.

"I had to keep busy somehow," Jim argued. He chuckled at the memory. Sure, they'd had their classes and exams and all sorts of other things, but a man needed a distraction now and again and Jim found his in the beds of pretty women.

He rubbed the side of his neck. "Well, not half," he said. There had only been a few so far, but they were all really fantastic. "But Bones, believe me when I tell you, you're not going to be disappointed."

McCoy outright laughed at that. “Give you another week and you will have?” he quipped. He knew Jim wasn't really that bad, despite his tendency to be easy distracted by a pretty face, but he couldn't help giving him a hard time when the opportunity presented itself.

“They got any good whiskey on this island?” he asked, snorting a little at the prediction that he wouldn't be disappointed. McCoy’s fondness for a good bottle of liquor rivaled Jim’s love of women. He wouldn't want to be stuck somewhere it wasn't readily available.

He shrugged. "Maybe. Or maybe I'll just keep returning to the women I'm already enjoying." Was that abnormal for him? He wasn't sure anymore. He moved along to the next question quickly, so he wouldn't have to think too much about that. "You know, now that I think about it, I haven't seen any whiskey, or any alcohol at all. Huh."

McCoy raised an eyebrow at that. The idea of Jim Kirk settling for one woman or even a small handful when he could have his pick of many was foreign to him. Not that he didn’t think he’d ever settle down, but he hadn’t seen that day coming anytime soon. It was weird, especially here on an island where someone seemed to want them to sleep around as much as they wanted.

“No alcohol?” Jim’s next statement succeeded in distracting him from the weirdness that was Jim not wanting to sleep with every woman on the island. “None?” He groaned at that. “I knew this place was too good to be true.”

"Well now, wait a minute," Jim said, holding up a hand. "I'm saying I haven't seen any, not that there isn't any. You'd have to ask around, see if you can find some people who've been here longer than I have. Or, if all else fails, maybe we can start distilling our own." He grinned.

“There’d damn well better be.” He was somewhat mollified by the suggestion that they could start distilling their own if they couldn’t actually find any here on the island. Not that he had any clue how to go about doing that and he suspected that distilling whiskey wasn’t in Jim’s skillset, either, but where there was a will, there was a way.

“I suppose you’ve got a point there,” he relented. “You actually have a clue how to do that or are we just gonna wing it if it comes to that?”

Of course Jim didn't have a clue how to distill whiskey but he shrugged in response. "You're more science-y than I am, Bones," Jim said, clapping hand over on his leg with a grin. "I'm sure you can figure it out. In fact, I've got every confidence that you can."

He rolled his eyes at that, but then he couldn't help grinning. This was going to be good, he thought. They were in literal paradise with more beautiful women than either of them could count. He'd feel better if he had a good bottle of whiskey, but all things considering, there were worse places to end up and he had a feeling he was gonna like it here.
