Barry liked to run on the beach and usually did so at least once a day, sometimes twice, depending on what was going on in camp. Most days, he would wait until after sunset, but this evening he was feeling restless and headed out instead of joining everyone for dinner at the community center. Things were going really well here and he was glad that he accepted Arva's invitation, so it was weird that he couldn't seem to settle today.
The arrival of a few of Christine's friends from home was throwing him off a little. They seemed like really nice guys, but he was worried that they would think he wasn't good enough to be the father of her baby. Which was a stupid thing to worry about, he knew, especially since they were giving the baby to Arva, but it was definitely on his mind. Mostly, he wanted them to like him because he cared about Christine a lot and hoped that they would still be close after the baby was born. If her friends decided they didn't like him though... well, he was pretty sure he knew how that would go.
Since most of the other volunteers were likely at dinner, Barry was surprised when he heard a voice saying hello. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up before he even turned and, when he did, his heart jumped. Patty was back. He'd broken her heart by refusing to tell her the truth about who he was and she left before they could really mend fences. And now she was back and another woman was expecting his baby and everyone on the island knew he was The Flash and oh god, this was going to be a nightmare.
"Patty," he said, his voice cracking. "Did you just get back?"
