Steve nodded. Pepper would appreciate the thought and effort that went into it, regardless of how it came out unless it posed a danger to her child. There wasn't a chance in hell that either he or Nat would ever gift something dangerous to a child. "She's real sweet like that," he agreed.
It was a little bit of a quiet moment, but when had they been able to have a quiet moment together to just be? All they had was time on the island, so Steve wasn't in any rush to get the crib done or slip off to somewhere else. When he was with Natasha, it was beyond easy to just be there in the moment with her. Lacing his fingers with her's was just natural. It had been a bit of an eye opener to realize that she and Clint weren't together, and while he was supportive of her exploring what she might want with Bruce, that wasn't a thing here. Steve was honestly a little relieved about that.
Unable to resist, Steve unclasped their fingers so he could pull her in for a hug against his side. It felt good to have his arms wrapped around her, holding her close, even if he wasn't sure there'd ever be more than that. They stayed that way for a few long minutes before he finally pulled away. "Alright, this crib isn't going to build itself," he explained. It was easier to focus on building so that he could ignore just how much he'd rather just sit with her tucked against his side.
