Lydia's conversation with Malia had been an attempt to help the other girl, but it wasn't selfless. It had also been strategic. She hadn't been able to sleep very well the night prior, due to the lack of comfort. It was hard to get comfortable sleeping on the jungle floor and while resting her head on Stiles's shoulder and curling close at his side had made her a little less uncomfortable than trying to find comfort laying on one of her own arms curled under her head or something, it still hadn't been ideal. She hadn't meant to distract Stiles with her message to him, she just hadn't wanted to say it to him while they were walking with the others, especially when half of them could have heard it even if she whispered.
When she felt Stiles nudging her, she looked over and gave him a little smile, pushing herself up to her feet and starting away from the rest of the group at the camp and slowed to make sure Stiles was at her side. Lydia was quiet as she headed out of the camp and into the jungle. Once she was confident that they wouldn't be overheard, Lydia looked over at Stiles.
"You know the point of this project is to sustain, right?" she asked. "It's about building, sure, but it's more about sustaining, I think. Proportionately, like I said before."
