The last thing Natasha wanted while she was here was to get soft and it would be so easy to do that but she'd kept up a routine as close as her usual one as possible. Running, sparring, working out alone, she felt like she was still in reasonably good shape all things considered. It also gave her the alone time that she craved some days.
She'd been happy that Steve was back but hadn't spoken to him yet. Part of her was afraid to, she didn't want to be disappointed and find out that he didn't remember how close they'd gotten, how much his friendship meant to her even if she didn't come out and say it. It bothered her that she hadn't had that when he was here before or with the version of him that was here before but from what Pepper had said, he was different, he was the Steve she remembered but she still wasn't sure what to say to him which was very unlike Natasha.
When she heard him come up behind her and he spoke to her, she slowed down and stopped. the minute he spoke, she knew. This was the man she knew and she returned his smile with one of her own. "Hey yourself," she said. "it's good to see you too."
