WHO: Stiles Stilinski & Chris Argent
WHAT: Conversations
WHEN: Dusk
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Closed, Incomplete

As one of the few people who had been here from the beginning, Stiles had seen a lot of progress in their new society, primarily with the construction of the medical center and the nearly complete community center, not to mention the thriving garden and all the animals they were caring for. However, he'd also seen a lot of things change from the beginning that he didn't really like. When they first arrived, they had literally nothing and they had to work together to make sure they all had what they needed to survive. Now that the gods had bestowed so many gifts upon them and they were a little more comfortable, it seemed like there was less cohesiveness in the group.

It was small things he noticed at first - people seeming more interested in doing things that would benefit themselves instead of the whole group and focusing on having personal belongings instead of sharing what they had with everyone. Those weren't necessarily bad things, but Stiles felt like they went against the spirit of the project and why Arva brought them here.

And now he was hearing and seeing things that made him uncomfortable about the division of people who were keeping their babies versus giving them to Arva. It honestly surprised him that anyone would want to raise a child in an environment like this, but he wasn't going to judge them for making that decision and he didn't like feeling that people might be judging him and Malia for what they did. In his mind, Arva was much better equipped to raise the children in her temple. She could provide them a much better life than he and Malia could. And given their parentage and the awkwardness of those relationships, he didn't want to risk either of them resenting the babies in any way.

Still, he was feeling a little disillusioned with everything right now and, after dinner, decided to head down to the beach for some solitude and peace. He ended up sitting near the surf, letting the waves wash over his feet, knees bent up and elbows resting on them, watching as the sun began to sink below the horizon.

For once in his time on the island, Chris wasn't wandering and thinking, he was specifically out for a walk. Not intending to go to the beach, he was just looping along the beach and then heading back to the camp, but to the beach it was. The beach was pretty prominent in his time on the island, so it was only natural he ended up there so frequently, he supposed.

But ending up on the beach had also resulted in him running into people from home. A lot. To the point that it was ridiculous in the kind of secretly funny way. And it wasn't that he minded. It was just that he was wondering if he was being told something that he wasn't picking up on. In which case, he was also wondering which of the gods might be trying to tell him something. But that was a something he could ponder at a later time. This was a walk just to enjoy the island since he didn't have anything he needed to be doing at that particular moment.

Which was good because he caught sight of Stiles sitting there looking... well...pensive would be a good word for it, he supposed. And had him walking closer, wondering if the boy wanted company and deciding that he was going to get the company anyway. Sometimes you had to intrude on your child anyway and prod a little to make sure they were all right, and while Stiles wasn't his child, Chris had raised one. He knew the drill by now.

"What's wrong?" he asked, immediately settling down beside Stiles, but over enough to not be right up in his personal space. "And don't tell me 'nothing', that never worked when Allison tried it, either."

Stiles cringed a little when he realized that he wasn't alone on the beach. And not only was he not alone, but it Mr. Argent coming towards him. And apparently Mr. Argent wanted to talk. It was weird enough that his friend's father was here on Sex Island, presumably doing the things that people did on Sex Island, but Stiles wasn't sure he could actually talk to the man about what was on his mind. Or anything to do with this place really.

On the other hand, Stiles was a talker. Especially when he was trying to sort something out. And if he couldn't talk to his own father, then maybe someone's father would make a reasonable substitute. Chris might regret pushing Stiles to talk once he got going.

"I'm just thinking about a lot of things," he said. "About this place and what's happened so far and what might happen in the future. I've been here for almost four months now. I was one of the first people to arrive and I've seen how much progress we've made. We literally started with nothing. And it seems like some people are taking things for granted, like the gifts from the gods. And it seems like some people are judging people for deciding to let Arva raise their babies."

No, he didn't take a breath during all of that, why do you ask?

Of course he didn't take a breath, he was Stiles.

Chris frowned thoughtfully. "We maybe here to rebuild, but we're also human," he said after a moment. "And people are going to want things. It's human nature. But at the same time? We wouldn't be here if we weren't good people -- I'm assuming Arva and the others didn't pick people who weren't basically good at heart. Rough around the edges, maybe, but basically good at heart."

He gave a slight smile. "So it only makes sense that there'd be growing pains. Unpleasant ones, true. Because taking things for granted and judging people? Are human nature no matter what kind of paradise rebuilt we're in."

"That makes sense," Stiles said with a nod. After all, the whole purpose of being here was to create a new society and that required cooperation. If Arva brought people here who were intent on destruction, like Peter Hale, that would be counter productive to their goals as a group. And he honestly didn't think that any of the volunteers were bad people, they all just had different backgrounds and expectations. Which was why it was so important that they address issues as they arose and make sure they weren't falling into old habits simply because that was the way things were done at home. This was a fresh start for all of them.

Not that he wanted to think too much about how Mr. Argent might be contributing to their new society. As far as he knew, the man hadn't fathered any children yet, which was probably a good thing because that would just be weird, but he was probably having sex and that was almost as gross for Stiles to consider as his own father doing it. "So, um, how are you doing?"
