Malia didn't want to give up the babies, but she knew that she'd already waited too long. If she waited any longer, it was just going to hurt more, and she was going to grow more attached to them than she already was. She knew it wasn't for the best for her to keep them. She had to give them away, no matter how much it hurt. And they'd reached the point where she couldn't wait any longer.

So she'd contacted Arva earlier, and right now was sitting in the woods near the waterfall, holding them as she waited for Arva to arrive. They were such beautiful little babies, and she knew that she would always remember the time she'd had with them...even though she knew she couldn't keep them, and that they wouldn't remember that she had loved them.

She looked over at Stiles, clearly stricken. She almost said something, but stopped, turning back to the babies sleeping in her arms.

If it had been up to Stiles, they would have given the babies to Arva the day after they were born. Oh, sure, he loved his son, that wasn't a question, but he was in no way ready to be a father and he knew that every day that passed without them giving the babies to the goddess was going to make it more painful for Malia.

He was glad that she finally messaged Arva and was sitting with her while they waited for the goddess to join them. Since her arms were full of babies, he couldn't take her hand, but he did rest one of his hands on her shoulder, letting her know that he was here for support and that she wasn't going through this alone.

Arva had been keeping a close eye on Malia, Stiles, and the babies since they were born. She knew that the teenagers were planning to allow her to raise the children and was looking forward to taking in the first children conceived by the project, but she wasn't going to force them to hand the babies over until they were ready. Getting the message from Malia pleased her and she was smiling gently when she met them in the woods.

"Malia. Stiles. I am pleased to see you both."

Malia tried to smile, but just couldn't do it. She knew she'd said she'd give them up but now with Arva in front of her she just wanted to run and take them back where she knew they'd be safe and loved. But she couldn't. She knew that logically, even if her emotions hadn't quite caught up. Stiles's hand on her shoulder gave her the strength to stand and approach her.

"Cami is probably a were," she said softly. "You know how to take care of that, right? Help her learn control?"

	"Of course, my child," Arva said. "Your children will be safe in my temple until such time as they are old enough to join the population of the island. And they will be able to watch you." 	"They will? They'll know that we love them?" Because they did. Even though she knew she couldn't raise them, that she needed to give them up, she still loved them. 	She bit her bottom lip, but finally handed the babies over to Arva, and tears started streaming down her cheeks. She hated doing it, it hurt so much, her whole heart aching at the thought of not seeing them grow up. But they'd be better. They'd be happier. "They'll...this is for the best, right?" "They will be well cared for, Malia," Arva repeated, glancing over at Stiles, who stepped up behind Malia and put a hand on her shoulder when she started to cry. "And you will see them again in the future."

Arva held out her arms so that the girl could hand the babies over. Darling Luke and Cami. Both such perfect additions to the society the volunteers were creating.

	Reluctantly, and biting her lip as she did so, Malia stepped forward and placed the babies in Arva's arms. They cooed a little, but didn't cry, which should have made Malia feel better, but she wasn't sure that it did. She stood still a moment, then turned to Stiles, burying her face in his shoulder. Stiles wrapped his arms around Malia, watching as Arva settled the babies easily in her arms and gave a nod before leaving them. It was hard watching her walk away with the two small lives that he and Malia had been responsible for the past few weeks, but it was also a relief in some way. He knew that they would be in good hands and that when he and Malia were ready to have a child of their own, they would be in a much better position to raise it.

Malia clung to him, as if she was afraid that Arva would take him away too. She'd never seen herself as the maternal type, but these babies had found a way into her heart and it broke it to see them taken away. Who knew if she'd ever get to see them again? Who knew if she'd ever find out if they were happy, or if they'd had a good childhood, or if they hated her for giving them away...

"I want to go back to the shelter," she whimpered into his shoulder.

"Okay, we can," Stiles promised, rubbing her back gently. "Trust me, Malia, this is for the best. They're going to have a great childhood with Arva." And maybe if they really missed the babies, the goddess would let him and Malia see them and make sure they were okay. Or even if they couldn't see them, maybe they could message her and get an update. But he wasn't going to suggest that in case it wasn't possible. He didn't want to get her hopes up.

He finally released her and took her hand. "I love you, you know."

	"She'll take care of them. She'll take good care of them," she said, repeating it over and over as if she were trying to convince herself. Which, of course, she was. It wasn't that she didn't trust Arva, it was just that they were her babies. "And I know you do." It wasn't a surprise, but it was a comfort to hear. "Will you have sex with me now?" 	That was unexpected though Stiles supposed it shouldn't have been given that it was Malia. "Yeah, sure, whatever you want," he said. It wasn't like hadn't wanted to have sex with her recently, it was just a little difficult to manage when you were taking care of two brand new babies who didn't sleep much and needed to eat all the time. 	As bluntly as she might have asked for it, what Malia really needed was that closeness. She needed it badly. Being close to him, she hoped, could take some of the pain away. "Okay. Let's go home and do that." At least that part of her life could be back to the way it was supposed to be. (Reply to this) (Parent)
