WHO: Bruce Banner and OTA
WHAT: Arrival
WHEN: Near sunset
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Open, Complete

When the goddess appeared to Bruce, offering him the opportunity to start a new life somewhere else, where he would be instrumental in developing a new society, he hesitated to accept the invitation. He was tired of running, but it didn't matter where he meant, he would always be a danger to the people around him. What good would someone like him be in starting a new society when he was more likely to rampage and destroy everyone and everything? It was almost like she read his mind and quickly assured him that if he accepted her offer, she would provide him with total control of his alter ego to ensure that he did not hurt anyone.

That was better than anything he was going to get at home, so he agreed. There was no way in hell he was going back to the US, not after abandoning his team after rescuing the people of Sokovia. If he showed his face anywhere remotely civilized, he knew that Natasha would show up and rightfully give him shit for his disappearing act. Bruce knew that it was a moment of weakness to run. Part of him wished that things could have been different, that they could have taken off together and tried to make a life like the one Clint and Laura had, but deep down, he knew that wasn't in the cards for him.

Several weeks passed before he woke up on an unfamiliar beach and recalled his conversation with the goddess. Apparently it was time to start working on rebuilding the world. His clothes weren't exactly appropriate for the tropical climate, but there was nothing he could really do about that other than unbutton his rumpled button down and untuck it from the wrinkled khakis. If he got desperate later, he could remove his overshirt completely and just hang out in his undershirt, but for now, he was okay. He did remove his shoes and socks though, figuring bare feet made more sense in the sand.

Bruce gathered the items that he found lying next to him when he woke, figuring they would be useful later, and took a moment to examine the band on his wrist that would serve as a communication device with his fellow volunteers. Rather than put out a message that way, he started walking. The place couldn't be that big so he was bound to run into someone sooner rather than later.

In retrospect, Cisco probably should've thought this through a little more. Or a lot more. The idea of the project and the setting described in the vision were too good to pass up, but now that he was here, Cisco was realizing that survival was...probably not going to be his strong suit. He'd started walking when he got the direction from Sara, but it seemed like he'd been walking forever. He had to keep changing his direction slightly with the movement of the sun and, by the time he ran into someone else, the sun looked like it was getting ready to set. If he didn't find the group soon, he was going to have to make camp on his own which, quite honestly, was not appealing.

But another person? Maybe he wasn't quite as lost as he thought.

"Hey man," he called out. "Are you one of the guys headed west inland? I didn't look around the whole network on this thing or anything, but...I think that's where people are going and I'm starting to think I've lost my way a little bit."

By the time Bruce ran into the younger man, he had responded to a few of the introductions on the network and was indeed heading to the west side of the island. The fact that Maria Hill of all people was here made him wonder if he had made a mistake in accepting the invitation to take part in this project.

"Oh. Yes. I am," he said, shaking off his thoughts and managing a small smile. "Dr. Bruce Banner. I take it that we're the first group of volunteers to arrive."

That was a relief, Cisco thought, when the man said that he was, indeed, headed inland and to the west just as Cisco himself was. He smiled and held his hand out to shake. "Cisco Ramon. Nice to meet you, Dr. Banner," he replied.

He shook his head a little as he shrugged, though, at the question. "I would think so based on context, but I don't actually know for sure," he answered. "I think I got a little turned around with the sun starting to set...Sara told me if I needed her to come find me to let her know, but if you're better at this whole...directions based on the sun rather than Siri thing, then I'll wait and follow you, if that's cool, instead..."

Bruce shook his hand. "Please, call me Bruce," he said. There was no need for formal titles in a situation like this, he figured. "I do have some experience navigating without technology."

There weren't a lot of cell phone towers in some of the places he traveled in his efforts to avoid humanity as much as possible. Part of him was anxious that the goddess's promise to keep his alter ego in check would somehow fail and he would hurt people, but he was trying to maintain a calm, positive attitude. "Where are you from, Cisco?"

Nodding, Cisco smiled. "Bruce then," he agreed. That was simple enough. "Well, at least one of us does. Lead on?"

Cisco pulled his hair off his neck and held it in his fist at the back of his head because, damn, it was kinda hot here. "Central City," he replied. "Missouri. What about you?"

As they headed across the island, Bruce considered his answer to the question of where he was from. "No one place in particular," he finally said. "I've traveled a lot, especially recently." Since he was trying to run away.

"I spent the most time in New York though."

Quite frankly, Cisco was a little bit jealous to hear that. He loved Central City and both his born and chosen families within it, but the idea of being able to travel now and again and see some of the world in which he lived was a nice one. "Sounds nice," he replied. "New York State or City?" he asked.

The roar of a waterfall started to dimly break through the relative silence. "I think we're getting close."

"Both, but moreso the city." When he wasn't busy destroying it.

They did seem to be closing in on the waterfall and Bruce was suddenly anxious about meeting up with more people. Why had he volunteered for this? He was the last person who should be part of building a new society.

Forcing himself to stay calm, he paused to take in the scenery around them. If nothing else, it was beautiful here. "The higher powers certainly chose a wonderful place."

When Bruce stopped, so did Cisco and at the comment, he too started to look around to appreciate the scenery that surrounded them. Cisco had never really left Central City, unless an occasional jaunt to Starling counted, which he didn't think that it did. Being able to see a place like this on television or online was one thing, but actually standing in it was quite another. A breathtaking other.

"They really did. I mean, it's hot, but I'll get used to that. It's gorgeous here, for real," he agreed.

Cisco looked back at Bruce. "Ready to meet the rest of the group and see who all we're starting this civilization with?"

Bruce was as ready as he was going to be. He had to trust that the goddess wouldn't want to risk him hurting the other volunteers and it was safe for him to be here.

"Yes, I am," he said. The young man had a calming presence and Bruce was grateful he didn't have to approach the larger group alone.

Grinning with excited anticipation, Cisco nodded. "All right, man, let's do this," he said, before he started walking again, leading them the rest of the way toward the main camp.
