WHO: Steve Rogers OTA
WHAT: Socializing, probably.
WHEN: Tuesday
WARNINGS: none, will change if necessary
STATUS: Open, multiples welcome

It was a bit sad to see the table of treats and carbs go — Steve was certainly going to miss them, even if they still did have a few items stashed away in their shelter — but it was kind of nice that things were winding down since it’d disappeared and everything was going back to whatever version of normal this place had. It had honestly been a bit of a whirlwind of a week. But a really good one. He felt like he was in a decent place with Bucky in terms of comfort levels and a lack of awkwardness (considering some of the stuff they’d gotten up to). And since he knew himself fairly well, he was going to call that a win for now and deal with anything else that came up later.

Currently, he was seated outside of his and Bucky’s shelter, a sketchbook on his lap and an array of colored pencils on the bench next to him as he took his time in drawing the scenery around him. If nothing else, this island would always be great for inspiration, the tropical theme, flora and fauna were always good art subjects. He’d always been big on art but here he really had time for it like he hadn’t back home.

Probably because he wasn’t spending his time punching or jumping off of things, here.

Which was sort of a shame, although he'd never admit it. Steve was just -- well, he liked some action, he couldn't help it. Being so stationary had him, occasionally, ill at ease. So he drew.

Bucky was feeling a lot better today and had run into Christine by the med center when he was leaving the community center project. Coming up to 'home', Bucky's expression softened a bit seeing Steve with his colored pencils. He came up behind Steve not bothering to try to hide his presence at all.

"Guess who?" He put his hands in front of Steve's eyes without touching him exactly. Glancing around, he leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to the top of Steve's head. Then he moved around to sit on the other bench. "I ran into Christine, she wanted to meet you so I told her to come on over."

Since he'd known Bucky was there before he announced himself in any kind of way, Steve only smiled and tilted his head back a little, eyebrows raised in mock surprise. "Buck! Fancy meeting you here."

He moved to clear off some of the colored pencils to give his -- Bucky a place to sit if he wanted. "The nurse? She seems nice. When you do think she'll be by?" It was a little like playing house, except he had no refreshments to offer beyond water (sometimes with berries in, for flavor).

Bucky appreciated Steve moving his things. If they weren't about to have company he'd have sat beside him and watched Steve draw for awhile. He had always enjoyed watching that hadn't changed.

"Yeah. She and I are working on the baby things together. I made her the knitting needles. She said she could knit things but we need to get her some yarn for that." He thought about what she said. "Any time? She wasn't far behind him I thought but maybe she stopped off at her shelter."

Christine was looking forward to things getting back to normal. She was pretty sure she'd had more sex the past week than she'd had in a very long time, not that she kept track of it. Still though, it had been nice but she was anxious to get to work. Bucky had made the knitting needles as promised and now she just needed something to knit so when she'd run into him and he'd asked her to come over, she'd been happy to do so. Besides she was looking forward to meeting Steve. She'd heard a lot about him and knew that many in the camp though highly of him.

She stopped for a moment as she approached their shelter and watched them. They looked happy and she wondered if they were more than just friends. She hoped so because from what she knew of Bucky, he'd been through a lot and he deserved all the happiness he could get. She started walking again and soon she was standing in front of them.

"Hi guys," she said and she smiled at Steve. "I'm Christine, it's nice to meet you finally. I've heard a lot about you."

Well, Bucky hadn't been kidding -- she really was just a few second behind. Steve, ever the gentleman (when he wanted to be) smiled brightly at her and, clutching his sketchbook to his chest and his pencils in the same hand, stood in order to both be polite and shake her hand.

"Hi, Christine. Nice to meet you too. Bucky's talked about you plenty. How do you like your knitting needles?"

Bucky stood too, because Steve made him remember old habits and manners. "Hey. You got here quick. Do you want some water or some fruit to snack on?" They kept a well stocked 'pantry' that they could here. There was always some fruit and usually some smoked fish leftovers around.

She laughed. "I'm used to walking pretty fast so it doesn't take me long to get anywhere really. Some fruit sounds great. That's been one of my favorite things here." You couldn't get much better than right off the tree or the bush whichever the case might be.

"And yes, thank you for the knitting needles. I haven't had the chance to use them yet but I can tell they're going to work fine. Once I get the hang of these, we can figure out how to make different sizes so I can vary the stitches." Right now everything needed to be small since babies were small but eventually she hoped to make things for the adults too. Maybe blankets or something even if it probably never got that cold here.

The fruit really was good. It was nature's candy, or something like that. Not that Steve would have minded some real candy -- he sort of missed those hard butter scotch things from back home. He'd always sort of had a few in his pockets for when the mood struck. Still, beggars - choosers.

He moved to go inside, grab a few selections of fruit from one of the baskets. "You know," he admitted, glancing over at Bucky "I wouldn't mind learning how to knit. If you're willing to teach me at some point. Once we figure yarn out, anyway?" Knitting seemed... artistic.

Bucky took out a knife and deftly peeled and sliced up a mango that Steve brought out for them to eat. He'd gotten used to everything being messy using their hands to eat.

"I'd like to learn too. I read on the internet, before I came here, that it can help with PTSD. I was trying to find stuff at home you could do. That was one of them." He'd thought it was silly and hadn't been able to learn it himself. But the idea of making warm things at the time was very appealing. After cryo and being stored in Siberia Bucky never wanted to feel cold again.

"Doing things with your hands is therapeutic," she said. "Believe it or not coloring is something that I've seen done and I've encouraged people to do. Doing something creative, using your hands to make things, it keeps your mind focused on the task and you're less likely to drift into thoughts you shouldn't be thinking."

She was looking forward to doing the knitting and hopefully that would be soon. "At least we have the first part of the project. Now we just need yarn."

It was sort of incredibly brave how Bucky owned up to the issues he had, and how he wanted to try his best to fix them. Steve -- well. Steve slept just as badly as Bucky did some nights, was just as quick to have a moment of paranoia and was far less interested in being social. And yet, he'd be the last person to admit to having any real problems. He tucked that thought away in his head, ignored it for the time being.

"Art is sort of calming," he admitted, his sketchbook still tucked against his chest with one arm, mess of pencils too. "I'm always happy to learn new kinds." He paused, amused. "So yarn gathering. We have a spinning wheel in the camp. And sheep. So."

"I've been thinking about the yarn angle. I think I could probably shear one with my bowie knife, if I had a couple people to hold it still. I wouldn't want to hurt it." Bucky was swift and exact with his knife skills. However, he'd be very upset if he actually injured the sheep in the process. Part of this new life was taking care of living things, not harming them.

He glanced at Steve. "That something you feel up to, holding down a sheep?"

"I have done a lot of things as nurse but I have never sheared a sheep," Christine said, laughing. "but if Steve is up for it and tells me what to do, I can help hold it. Do we have anyone who can actually spin it once we get the wool?"

She had seen spinning wheels but never used one. "I feel so weird sometimes when I say I've seen stuff in museums and people stare at me but it's true. We don't have spinning wheels in the 23rd century. We either buy yarn or it's all made by machine but I kind of like doing things by hand. I've enjoyed sewing the diapers."
