WHO: Malia Tate and OPEN
WHAT: Going hunting and for a swim
WHERE: The Waterfall
WHEN: Wednesday morning
WARNINGS: Low
STATUS: Open/Complete

As glad as she was that Stiles had gone home to get his memories of her back, she still missed him. He was, after all, her best friend as well as her mate, and it had been torture when he hadn't remembered most of the time they'd spent together. She wanted him back, wanted her Stiles remembering her. She wanted those smiles that were only for her, that made all the work she was doing to be human worth it.

Of course, things were different here on Sex Island. They would be in an open sort of relationship, sleeping with other people because that was simply what you did here. And Malia didn't mind that, as long as he came home to her, and they had the emotional commitment. As long as he didn't fall in love with anyone else, and as long as he didn't get anyone else pregnant, she didn't really care where he put his dick.

It would have been pretty hypocritical if she had. Malia liked sex, and she liked having it with lots of different people. She only loved Stiles, but she'd enjoyed her times with Isaac and Finnick and Cisco and all of the others she'd been with. And she wanted to keep that going as much as she could.

This morning she'd gotten up early and headed into the woods. There was plenty of food, she knew that. But sometimes nothing beat a freshly killed rabbit. And surely the Gods wouldn't mind if she just killed one? After all, she was doing her part to help them. She was having lots and lots of sex and she was pregnant with two babies. Surely that earned her at least one rabbit?

After she'd killed and eaten it, she went to the waterfall to wash the blood away. Of course, there were specks on her clothes that wouldn't come off so easily, but it was good enough. After she got most of it off, she stripped down and dove into the pool, surfacing a few seconds later with a smile.

Charles had been coping a bit better with the whole withdrawal thing now that he had the pot that Finnick had given him. He'd need to learn how to get more, since he was carefully rationing the joints he'd been given, but so far it was helping at least with the paranoia. The sweating though, was not being helped. Not having any way to try to stop it or make himself smell any better, he'd resorted to taking a lot of baths.

Which really, here in this tropical climate, wasn't a bad thing. The water at the waterfall was refreshingly cool and he was alone a lot of the time. It let his telepathy have a rest too, since it was a bit taxing being around so many people all the time. He'd forgotten what it was like to be surrounded as isolated as he'd become on his estate before this.

A cool dip was on his mind when he came over the little hill and picked up Malia's mind. He could have turned around, but frankly, he felt disgusting at the moment and wanted to cool off. At least her mind felt happy for the most part, not like the overwhelming sadness of before. He continued on and waved at her from the bank. "Hello Malia. I hope this morning finds you doing well. Do you mind if I join you?"

Malia, with her heightened werecoyote senses, had smelled him coming a long way off. If she'd not wanted him to be there she would have made it known a long time ago, or gotten out of there herself. As it was, she wasn't in as bad of a mood as she had been, although every day she couldn't help but await Stiles's return.

"Nope," she said, not turning to face him. Why did she need to? She knew who he was by his scent better than any sight could tell her. As a shapeshifter herself, Malia knew well enough that looks could be deceiving.

"And I'm okay," she said, answering the first statement last. "Stiles went home to remember me."

"Oh, is that a thing that can happen. People going home and coming back with different memories?" That sounded possibly damaging to the person but he could pick up from her mind that she felt this was a good thing. "I'm glad to hear you're feeling better than when we last spoke."

Charles stripped off and got into the water with a soft sigh. It helped immensely being in it, and he quickly ducked his head under to wet his hair too. "I am not doing very well at the moment, but hopefully that'll improve soon."

Malia shrugged.

"Sure, if they want to. I mean, we're not prisoners here. If we want to go home, Arva lets us go home." She did think it was a good thing for Stiles to go home, to catch up on some of the things that had happened to him. She didn't see it as being damaging at all, he was simply living a bit more then returning here. What was wrong with that?

She blinked at his blunt admission, cocking an eyebrow. She didn't mind honesty - actually, she quite preferred it - but humans usually answered 'fine' to that question, even if they weren't.

"What's wrong?"

"The going home and returning with different memories part is the one that fascinates me. That that part can happen. But it sounds like a lot of people have went home and returned so maybe it's a common occurrence?" Charles thought about it a moment. "It must be very strange going home with your memories of here and getting all these memories of what you've missed then coming back." He'd have to try to find this Stiles person when he returned to read his mind and find out how exactly that'd worked out for him.

"I seem to have been a bit more addicted to alcohol than I thought and my body is rather displeased that I am not consuming it here." He gave her a rueful look. "So, soaking in the water helps."

Several times, Malia had tried to get drunk, but it had never worked. Her metabolism was just too fast - the coyote burned it off before it could affect her. And since the alcohol tasted awful, Malia hardly ever drank. And she really didn't get what was so fun about it, although she supposed it wasn't her place to question it. Hey, whatever the guy wanted. It was his life.

"Well, I guess you can get off of it now. From what I've heard, you'll go through hell, but then you'll be free of it."

"Or perhaps the gods will send me some so I can stop feeling this miserable." He gave her a wan smile. "Though I guess I should try to give it up. I hadn't thought it'd be this bad, or that I drank that much. But I admit, back home had gotten into a bad way and I probably was using it as a means of escape more than I'd like to admit."

He found her thoughts about her own experience interesting. Good thing to note, the weres couldn't get drunk due to metabolism. A good thing, a drunken werecreature sounded about the same level of potential catastrophe as a rampaging drunk mutant.

Malia shrugged, wondering why he was sharing his whole life story with her. With her, of all people. Sure, she'd gotten better at the whole acting human thing since she'd been changed back. She'd gotten a lot of help from Stiles in learning to care about other people. And yes, she was the past the point where she would simply take Stiles and leave if she and her friends were attacked.

But she was still more of a wild creature than a person, and she cared more about herself than the sad times of a man she barely knew.

"They'd have to send it to you all the time. That would be stupid," she said. "Better you just man up and get over it, so you'll be in better shape from now on out."

Sympathy was not one of Malia's strong points.

He smiled at her a bit ruefully. Ah the black and white thought processes of youth. She really did remind him of Raven and his students and it was nice, in it's own way. Made him feel a bit less alone, which was good, now that he was hurting at the moment. Even her thoughts of why he'd bother talking to her were a little amusing and a little sad. She didn't see her own value and he could at least try to show her that. How she was human and worthy of being treated as such.

"Perhaps you're right. We'll see what happens. Anyway, that's my own tale of woe, tell me about you? If you're doing better, what else have you been up to?"

"You mean other than being huge and pregnant?" Because that was what was taking most of her time. Eating. Sleeping. Eating again. At least one of her babies was certain to be a were, so it was hungry most of the time, just like she was. The other one...well, it seemed to be keeping up.

"I'm too tired to do much else. But I like the waterfall. It's nice here."

"Sure, other than huge and pregnant." He chuckled, he was interested in that her babies were mismatched but still seemingly consuming a lot of resources. "How does being a were affect your pregnancy? Do you know if your baby will be as well?"

"It is very peaceful here. I get the tiredness, the heat contributes to that too."

"I don't know," she said, shrugging. "I've never been pregnant before. And I'll never be pregnant as anything but a werecoyote." Since that's what she was. Duh. "My baby probably will be. Isaac, its father, was a werewolf too, so it's getting it from both of us. So...probably? The other one probably not. I mean, I'm just carrying it, it's not actually related to me."

She raised an eyebrow.

"I love the heat. It's so much better than being cold."

"True. When the babies are born, will you be able to tell if they are humans or were animals? Like, can you smell it or they will look different?" This part was really interesting to him. "And if so, will you know what type of were creature since you're crossing coyote and wolf?" That's the kind of information he'd need for his research but also it was something else to think about than how miserable he felt.

"Being cold would be nice right now. Curl up in front of a roaring fire on a soft rug...take a nap."

"I don't want to be cold ever," she said, wrinkling her nose. "Ever since I turned back into human I haven't been able to get warm. I want my fur coat back. Being a furless ape is miserable."

Of course, she knew that Stiles didn't want to be a werewolf or a werecoyote, so she'd have to just stay like this as long as she was with him. It was a sacrifice she was willing to make.

"Maybe. I don't know. I've never actually seen a baby werewolf before."

There were a lot of things that Malia hadn't experienced. That was one of them.

"Ah, yes, I can see how it would be like that. Still, you should be toasty warm here all year round." He grinned at her. "So that's something to like about it, if nothing else. Does that make being a human most of the time less awful?" Part of him wanted to say that he thought he could turn her back by influencing her mind if she got 'stuck' but he didn't want to make those kinds of declarations. One, he wasn't prepared to be outed as a telepath, and two, he'd not know until he sensed the mind of someone in animal form. Hmm, he'd have to work on acquiring that experience.

"I'm still on the look out for Derek that you suggested. I haven't been able to catch him, hopefully he'll know more about baby werewolves. With adults, how do you tell? Can you smell them or sense them in some other way?" That was also interesting. How her powers worked now.

"Smell," she answered. "Always smell. We rely on smell a lot. I can smell you before I even see you and know exactly who you are and probably what you're feeling. Different emotions smell different. It's true when they say animals can literally smell fear. It reeks off of people. So do joy, arousal...everything else."

She turned to him, and bluntly, in her Malia way, asked him the question that was on her mind.

"Do you want to have sex with me? Is that why you keep finding me naked?"

"Huh. Fascinating. So what do I smell like now? I'd imagine sickness of some sort?" That was incredible that smell was linked to feelings? "Can all the werecreatures here do the same thing?" That was sort of like telepathy, being able to sense people from distance and their moods, but not the type of details he could easily pull from their minds. Still, a powerful tool over a basic human's senses.

That startled Charles into a burst of awkward laughter. "Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to, laugh at the question or make you think I was some type of pervert. No, I don't want to have sex with you. You remind me of my students, of my sister when she was your age. I like you as a person, but not like that. Why, is that a problem?"

"Can't explain it," she said. "There are so many things I can smell that you can't. And they all smell different but...it's the combination of a bunch of things that make a person's smell. I can smell the old alcohol. Not fear but...discomfort. Unhappiness. The smell of your clothing. Sweat."

She could go on and on, but that, she felt, gave him the point well enough.

"Oh, okay," she said. She didn't care either way. Malia was confident and didn't particularly want to have sex with him either, it was just that he kept finding her. Which was odd. "No. I just wasn't sure what you were getting at, talking to me all the time. I'm not that good with human stuff."

"Wow, that's impressive. I can see how unique each persons smell would be and how easy to identify they'd be with that level of detail for each one." He could read how it worked in her mind a bit and there was a ton of data on him that she could tell from his scent that seemed to depend on her own experience to filter a bit of what was happening with it.

"You're good a being a human, Malia. Being around you reminds me of happy memories from growing up with my sister or teaching my students. It's nice, to remember them in fond ways. I like you for the person you are, as well. Don't you have other friends here?" That's what he'd like to be, her friend he thought. She seemed to need some, and Charles wasn't a man to look away from someone he felt like he could assist.

Malia couldn't really care less if she had friends here. She had Stiles, and that was all she really needed. Maybe she could be friends with Lydia, but since Lydia and Stiles had hooked up and she had to admit she felt a little bitter about that, well...it was complicated. To put it mildly.

It did feel good to hear that he thought she was a good human, though. Malia wasn't actually so sure, but hey, she'd take compliments where she could.

"No, but I'm fine."

Charles couldn't help but think how young, heartrendingly so, her thoughts were. That all she needed was this one other teenage guy. Who didn't even remember her and went home, who hopefully would return. For her sake he hoped he did. He didn't know who Lydia was but that sounded like a future source of drama from her thoughts.

"That's what my sister would have said when I first met her too. But friends are good. Putting all your love, hope, and trust in a single person can be dangerous, life is so fragile, you already know that."

That just earned him a shrug.

"He's my mate," she said. and that meant a great deal more than it would to a human. Coyotes mated for life, and while werecoyotes weren't exactly the same when it came to that, it was something that they took very seriously indeed. Stiles wasn't just her friend or boyfriend - it was very much more than that.

He read what mate meant to her but it was a shifting confusing thing that was hard for Charles to understand. Especially as terrible as he felt at the moment. "Hmm. Even so, perhaps you would do well to have a few friends too. There's no reason you can't have more than one person who cares about you and you care about too?"

Was there a reason? No, not really. There was no reason that she couldn't have other friends. Stiles didn't mind. He had other friends. And even if he did mind, he could go fuck himself. They were mates, yes, but he didn't own her.

He smiled at her. "Good." He was more approving of her thoughts, good on her not letting their connection dictate her actions, like so many teen girls did he'd seen.

"Well then, maybe we'll be friends then. Even with our clothes on." He gave her a wink.

"Sure," she said with a shrug, although she didn't really care about the clothes. That worked either way for her.

Her stomach growled, and she got out of the water, drying herself off and gathering her clothes.

He read in her mind that she legitimately planned to run down and eat rabbits raw. He was impressed her body could handle that, but she was were he reminded himself. "Ah, not at the present moment. I'm going to soak a bit more. But I hope you enjoy your hunt."

Smiling at her, he added. "Take care of yourself, Malia, you and your babies."
