WHO: Malia Tate and OPEN
WHAT: She's huge and pregnant and thinky
WHEN: June 3rd, evening
WHERE: By the waterfall
WARNINGS: None to think of
STATUS: Complete

When Malia had first arrived here, things had seemed pretty great. Everyone was here and she felt like good about her future helping create this new and exciting place. But she quickly learned that Paradiso wasn't always so beautiful beneath the surface as it appeared. Things had been...hard. She'd even considered leaving. And while that was no longer on the table for her, things still weren't perfect. She missed her relationship with Stiles desperately.

Back home, he was pretty much everything to her. She loved him deeply and completely. He was her best friend, her lover, her mate. And here, he had no idea about any of it. He didn't remember anything about them past Eichen House, and she felt like so much of her life had been just ripped away because of that.

She wanted to be excited about the fact she was feeling the babies move, but instead, she just felt sad. How else could a girl feel when she was carrying the babies of two men she loved, but who didn't love her in return?

She was naked right now, sitting in the cool water of the waterfall, her hand on her stomach. She was in her third trimester now, and and she was starting to look like she was going to pop any moment - especially with her carrying both of the babies.

Retracing his steps to the waterfall he'd woken in front of, Charles was able to better appreciate the wild beauty of the landscape around him. The area was teeming with wildlife that he'd never properly seen in person before. It was incredible.

Chloe had told him how the water system worked and where it was safe to bathe and where not. He was already so hot and sticky, a nice refreshing swim, with the use of his legs and powers, sounded incredible. He was lost in thought about his new shelter an possible place here, not particularly monitoring his surroundings when he was surprised by such misery that slapped him when he got into the clearing.

There was a heavily pregnant teenager with such sadness and bitterness tinging all of her thoughts, that she reminded him of Raven for a moment. His heard clenched in his chest, thinking of his lost sister. She may not be able to be helped from here, but this girl, he could try to help her. He wondered what had happened here to make her so miserable. It had something to do with the babies, which yes, there were two he could sense their consciousnesses, but he didn't try to delve any deeper.

Worried about startling her, he waved from where he was. "Hello, I'm a new comer, would it be alright if I joined you for a bath?" He'd been told nudity was a lot less restrictive here than at home had been so he went with it. When in Rome as they say...

Malia looked up, giving the man a very open look. She wasn't much one for hiding anything from anything ever. She didn't know him, had never seen him before in her life, but there was no shame or even shyness in her thoughts or in her mind about the fact that she was sitting there stark naked. Why should there be? She knew she was hot. Maybe unlovable (apparently) but definitely hot. She had plenty of people who wanted to have sex with her. She couldn't help but wonder if this guy did too. Was that why he was talking to her?

"Hi," she said. "Sure. I don't own the waterfall." She hadn't quite gotten used to people asking her if they could use things that weren't hers to begin with.

He smiled at her even if her thoughts were so dark. Something had happened to hurt her so badly, it was troubling to him. Maybe this wasn't the paradise it seemed like it was. "My name is Professor Charles Xavier and I showed up this morning so I'm still learning about everything."

Stripping out of his clothes quickly and efficiently, he had a moment to wonder if the scar on his lower back from the bullet entering his spine was still there or not. Arva had healed the damage but he wasn't sure if she'd have healed the scar. He casually reached back there as he moved to lay his clothes down an felt the raised skin there. So still there, but that wasn't a big deal, in the grand scheme of things. He could walk and use his powers, that's what mattered.

"I was hoping to soak some of the sweat off." He smiled at her. "You wouldn't happen to have some toiletries to share?"

"Oh," she said. "I'm Malia. I've been here since...well, since the beginning." She'd been one of the first ones here, back when she'd thought that this place actually was a paradise.

She gave him a look over, more clinically than anything. He was good looking, but most people here were. It seemed to be a requirement.

"Nope," she said. "I was just soaking. Sorry."

Sometimes it felt good to just soak in the water and take the weight from the babies off for a few minutes.

"Hi Malia, pleasure to meet you," he said in a friendly tone to her once he was in the water. "That's okay. I can rinse off for now and worry about actually taking care of things in the morning. I felt so hot and sweaty it's nice to be in the water."

He smiled at her, gesturing to her obviously pregnant belly. "When are your babies due?" He didn't think about referencing there were two, since it was so clear in his head that there were two minds in there. She was due soon, from his reckoning at least.

"Yeah, the water's always nice here," she said, stretching a little. "That's why we always do our cleaning and such down river from here."

No fouling the fresh water.

She looked down at her belly as if she'd somehow forgotten.

"A few weeks," she said. She really wasn't entirely sure because she didn't know how having the two babies who were conceived at different times would affect her due date.

"Only one's mine."

Even with telepathy, Charles couldn't seem to understand what she meant by only one child being hers. He got from her mind that one baby was another couples, but how did it get inside of her? That was, insanity. She wasn't entirely human either, but not a mutant. Did she have some crazy baby carrying power?

"Ah. If you don't mind me asking, how is only one yours?"

Malia didn't mind him asking. It wasn't like she was shy or something. So she shrugged a little.

"A while ago, there were a lot of people from my home here. One of them got pregnant about the same time I did. When she left, Arva asked me if I would carry her baby to term, and since it was my mate's baby, I said yes."

It seemed simple enough to Malia, and she hoped that cleared things up for the guy, even if she knew it was still a little complicated.

"Ah, so Arva can transfer pregnancies between women?" That seemed like quite a power, and made the gods a lot more powerful than he assumed. Healing him was a totally different thing from making a woman's body accept a foreign fetus and nurture it. "How do you feel about it now? Is your mate here?"

He knew from her mind he wasn't and that she was deeply unhappy. He wondered if she needed a friendly ear to listen.

Malia just shrugged. It was obvious she could, Malia had just said she could. It didn't seem to need any more confirmation from her.

"He's here," she said, but there wasn't really happiness in her voice. "He's here, but he doesn't remember anything about our relationship. I mean, he knows me, but he doesn't know that he loves me, and that sucks. So...I'm kind of carrying the babies of two people who don't love me and I'm pretty sure I'm not super excited about that."

"Did he have some sort of head injury that damaged his memory?" Charles asked. He could help with that, if it was the case. If the memories were still in his mind, he could bring them forth like he had for Erik before. "Otherwise, that sounds rather dreadful, being this uncomfortable for two men who don't love you. Whose helping you?"

"No," she said. "He just...doesn't remember. He comes from before we got together." Emotionally, anyway. Stiles remembered hooking up in the basement of Eichen, but he didn't remember the closeness and the friendship they'd developed after that. He didn't remember how they'd relied on each other, how they had become inseparable lovers who cared and watched out for each other.

He didn't remember the things she needed right now.

"Stiles is helping," she said, looking away. "He doesn't love me, but one of the babies is his."

"Ah. That sounds really hard, that you remember and he doesn't. At least he's there, but I can see how it wouldn't feel like your real partner is with you if he has no memories of your shared time together." Charles could imagine how devastating that'd be as an adult, to have the person you care about forget it. At her age, it was probably doubly so.

"He had a baby with the girl who left and you received her baby from Arva?" That's what his mind reading told her.

How had he known that? Malia cocked her head a little. Probably somebody told him at the same time they'd told him she was crazy. Because that's what people had thought of her for a while, she knew it. Even though she was better now that she'd gone home and had a little more experience being human.

"Yeah. That's right. With Lydia. She's back now, but doesn't remember anything either."

"I think what it is is that people come from different times," she explained. "Like, the stuff that Stiles remembers is like a year behind the stuff I remember. Like...the gods here can time travel us or something."

Malia was not a brilliant scientific mind, and honestly, that was the best she could do with that.

"That's rather fascinating. So time travel is the answer for why everyone is having memory problems. Is it mainly your friends or everyone here?" Perhaps it was her reality she came from was harder to pick people from? He could see how disconcerting and terrible that'd be. If Erik arrived from the day they'd met and didn't remember all that'd happened in between Charles thought that might be worse then never seeing him again at all.

"I haven't talked to everyone here," she said. "But I know it's not just my world. There are people from everywhere who are from different times."

She shrugged. She didn't really care about the others right now. Malia had a strong selfish streak that came from living by herself for eight years in the woods as a coyote, and no matter how much better she was getting, it was definitely still there.

She lived in the woods as a coyote for eight years? How was that even possible. How fascinating. "Ah, I don't think you're from my world. You and your friends, are you all humans or are you something more interesting? I've heard there were a variety of different types of people here."

Charles didn't want to give away he'd already read what she was. Though, he'd like to know more about it. She still didn't feel like a mutant at all, but her mind didn't feel entirely human either. He had a feeling he'd get good at identifying types of different species and people by the time his job as a volunteer here was done.

"Well, my friends aren't like me," she admitted. "But I'm a werecoyote. Like...I turned into a coyote for eight years and wasn't sure how to switch back until Scott made me do it."

She hadn't wanted to, either. She hadn't wanted to face the things she'd done...like killing her mom and sister on her first change. She didn't want to look at her dad and try to explain that to him. Thinking back, it still hurt that he thought she was crazy at first and even sent her to Eichen House, but in the long run they'd work it out, and he did still love her. Although Malia wasn't exactly sure why.

"Ah. Like a werewolf but a coyote? How does that work? Were you born or created, can you control it?" He was fascinated. He read that she'd killed her mother and sister which was terrible but it didn't appear she felt it was her fault. She sounded like she'd had a rough life. Sequestering herself for eight years, well Charles could understand cutting yourself off from the world while in pain.

"Is Scott here too?"

"Yes. Born. And yes, now I can," she said with a shrug. There'd been a long time she couldn't control it, until Stiles had faith in her and had refused to leave her during her change. And - she'd thought he was crazy for this at the time - he'd even unchanged her. But he'd been right. She'd loved him enough that her human side had won and she hadn't changed him.

All things this Stiles didn't remember.

"Yes. Scott's here. How do you know Scott?"

"Scott's an Alpha, that's how he could change me back," she said. She really didn't even know if he cared about that, but she'd tell him anyway.

"I - " She frowned. It wasn't that easy to explain, because while she could change into full coyote form, she was still working on it. She'd kind of done it by accident the first time and didn't want to get stuck that way again. Or at least she felt that she shouldn't want to get stuck that way again. "I've only done the half change recently. Like...I can get claws and fangs and wolfy without going on all fours." That took more control than what she'd done before.

"Oh so Scott is sort of the leader?" he could see that Scott wasn't much older than her so he was curious how that was decided. Huh. This sounded like it's own complex society within the new society they were building here.

"Ah, so there's different levels of changes and now you can control that part but don't want to go all the way in case something happened like it did when you were like that for years?" Charles was utterly fascinated by this whole discussion, listening to her raptly.

"Yeah, he's an Alpha," she said, as though that should be the most obvious thing ever. "Like with wolves?" Because they were wolves after all. At least partially.

"Well, just two. We can change all the way or we can change partly. And most of us can't change all the way."

She shrugged, looking away. "You should ask Scott. Or Stiles. Stiles is human but he knows more than any of us about...well, everything."

"Ah. Like wolves." Charles hadn't studied much about wolves beyond some discussion of them in genetics courses about genetic branching of families. So he didn't have in depth behavioral knowledge but they were packs and families and all families had heads.

"So you're special for being able to change all the way?" He wondered if it was like a mutation where he could affect it with his power or help her train to use it effectively? Or if it was something that when she was in that form he was unable to access her mind at all? It'd be intriguing to see. Since there were so many more wolves about apparently it'd be interesting.

"Will your babies be the same as a regular human's or is there special characteristics?"

"I guess. Derek, he's my cousin, can change all the way too. So could his mom. Maybe it's a family thing." She really didn't know all the details. She hadn't been in a form where she could talk and ask questions for very long at all.

"Well, the one that's Stiles and Lydia's is just going to be human," she shrugged. "But mine and Isaac's...well, he was a werewolf too, so it will probably be something." She hoped so, anyway. She'd rather have a baby with super quick healing. Who wouldn't, really?

"Is there someone here who knows the most about your kind? I am a geneticist by training and apparently I may be doing some work with the children of people on the island so if I could get a comprehensive amount of knowledge about each 'type' of person that'd be extremely helpful. We may find that certain people shouldn't reproduce together due to potential birth defects or the like." And be able to see who was producing different types of people, that too was a thing.

Super quick healing sounded grand, damn if Charles wasn't jealous of that one. "Ah, so even more miraculous that Arva could give you an entirely human baby to carry with your werechild."

Her words touched Charles' heart and made him ache for this poor girl. "No, you were very kind and clear spoken. I didn't find you mean or confusing. You are very human, don't let others take that from you. Sometimes they like to criticize the things they see in others that they hate about themselves." He shook his head.

Those words got the first real smile out of Malia that she'd made all evening.

"I don't know how human I am...or how human I want to be," she clarified. "But thanks. I try. I really do."

She sighed, thinking over all of the things that had happened. Meeting Isaac. Getting pregnant with Isaac's baby. Isaac falling in love with Lydia instead of her. Getting her heart broken. Stiles refusing to sleep with her. Stiles not remembering everything they had. The fact that nobody really loved her...that everyone had someone else they'd rather be with.

She sighed, shrugging a little.

"Just...stuff, you know?"

"You have such a lovely smile, Malia, I hope you can find things to smile over in the future." Charles told her, with a smile to her in return. It wasn't a line, she really did have a pretty smile, especially with the glow from her pregnancy. "You're succeeding. Don't let others tell you otherwise." He could see in her mind how hard she was trying and how defeated she felt. Feeling rejected and unloved, Charles knew all about that bitterness. It was very hard to try after that. It read in her mind like she'd had a very hard go of it here. She was tough to stick it out and not go home herself.

"Yeah. I had some rough stuff at home too, before coming here. That's sort of how I ended up here." He offered her a shrug. "I think maybe a lot of people are here because of some stuff going on in their lives." The bits he'd picked up so far seemed to indicate that most people didn't have overly unencumbered happy minds so far.

It was true. She didn't have to decide now. She'd think about it...although she was pretty sure that she was still going to just give it to Arva because she didn't want to make things even stranger with Stiles.

"I...I don't want to make things even stranger than Stiles."

Sighing, she got out of the water, slowly putting her clothes back on, making sure that she got everything stretched over her belly.

"I should get back," she said softly. She was tired. She needed a nap. She was going to be glad when the babies were out of her and walking a few feet didn't wear her out.
