"They didn't, let you have it back when you returned?" Bucky had understood about his own items, all his stuff was in museums or presumably with his family. He was dead and hadn't been officially alive again really. But Steve had made big headlines when he returned. Surely people gave him something as personal as his sketchbooks back.
"That's some bullshit, that was your private property. I mean, your sketchbooks were your diary basically. They have all of our memories in them, I know you drew so many pictures of my family and us and your Ma." He'd thought Steve had them. That they could look at those together, that it'd help him remember and give them a framework to talk about the past. Finding out that Steve didn't was like pulling the carpet out from under him again.
