WHO: Bucky Barnes & Ruby
WHAT: Bucky meeting Ruby and the animals
WHEN: Sunday morning, May 29th
WARNINGS: Language
STATUS: Closed, Incomplete

Bucky was up early with the sun. He hadn't slept well, which wasn't surprising or new. It only took him a little while to wash up and start making some breakfast. He was looking forward to having some eggs they could easily eat without feeling like hogs from the group. With his new herbs he might try something fancy like he'd seen on foot network. No way he'd make anything worse than what Steve did when he tried to cook.

Re-dressing in his blue button down plaid shirt, he left it unbuttoned and his undershirt off, but he kept the sleeves long. He didn't bother with his glove for his hand, since he'd already warned her about his arm. He pulled on his jeans and boots and reminded Steve of where he'd be and left to walk over to where the animals were kept. When he got there, he looked around for Ruby, unsure what she looked like. Were werewolves hair as people too? Maybe she'd have tufts of hair everywhere?

"Oh, well I guess wherever you want to answer for. Enchanted Forest sounds like something out of a fairy tale. Was it beautiful like that?" He hadn't heard of anywhere named something like that in his own world.

"That'd be incredibly generous, thank you. We will take very good care of the hens and chicks." Bucky smiled at her. "Abby is really kind. She's very excited about the goats and knows how to milk them so there is that."

"It was definitely something out of a fairy tale," Ruby said. "It had good and bad points." The truth behind the tales was a little darker than most people realized or wanted to consider, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, the Enchanted Forest was beautiful.

She returned his smile easily. He was so very eager that it was endearing. Whatever happened to him before coming here was obviously not pleasant given the fact that he had a metal arm, but he was clearly trying to move past that and start over, which was pretty much the entire point of being here. Ruby of all people could understand wanting to atone for your past and do something beneficial for others.

"I look forward to meeting her then," she said. "There's still a number of new arrivals I haven't had a chance to speak with yet."

"Ah, yeah, most places do." Hmm, that sounded like a rather loaded statement. Bucky left her with her summary of where she was from, she could elaborate later if she wanted to. Asking questions about people's pasts was rarely something that made anyone happy, especially here.

"It seems like there were a lot in the past week. I haven't met most of them either. Steve and I have been helping Finnick with his house and building our own things for around our shelter." He shrugged. "Do you need help making anything for the animals here? I am a little handy with carpentry given enough time I can make things." He smiled. "Is there other help you need around here on an ongoing basis. Like, I am happy to take an assigned time to care for the animals so you can have definite days off and the like?"

It was cool that people were willing to jump right in to doing whatever needed to be done right after their arrival and Ruby smiled at the offer. "I'm not sure I need anything at the moment," she said. "Unless you know how to build a spinning wheel. That would come in really handy." Dealing with freshly shorn wool was a pain in the ass either way, but a wheel would make it marginally less annoying.

"And I don't know if we need a formal schedule or anything, but if you want to take on some of the responsibility of caring for the animals, I'd definitely appreciate the opportunity to work on some other projects."

Bucky thought about it. "I think, a spinning wheel might be beyond my abilities unless you have some type of blueprint or drawing of it? I don't think I've ever really seen one up close to know how it works." He wished he did, he could see how valuable that'd be. "I'm surprised nobody hasn't prayed for some type of set of books with all this kind of knowledge in it? We need the internet or a kindle full of books." He smiled, he knew about that technology, had thought it was miraculous.

"Sure. I can do Wednesdays if that'd work for you? I want to do it more formalized because I already help on other projects and want to be able to tell the people I'm helping I won't be there?" That would work best for him at least. "Or any specific day you need me. Most of my work can always be moved around."

"Wednesdays works," Ruby said. It didn't much matter to her when he helped out since she was just glad to have some help. "And maybe the gods will send us some books. That would be useful." Or maybe she'd get a spinning wheel. That would be even better.

"Great. And yeah, it's be nice if they did." He smiled at her a bit sheepishly. "Umm, do you think you could show me... the wolf thing if it's not too personal?" He had been so curious and excited about it. It was probably too forward to ask but he wanted to see.

"Oh, right," Ruby said. She forgot that he was interested in seeing her more primal side. "I'll be right back." She didn't mind him seeing her as a wolf, but she preferred to make the transformation in private.

She headed over to a small copse of trees and stripped her clothes off quickly, leaving them in a pile on the ground. Once she was naked, she crouched down on all fours and closed her eyes, letting the magic wash over her. It was only a few minutes that passed before a giant dark wolf padded out of the trees towards Bucky.

Bucky looked around while he waited, wondering if he'd messed up somehow. But then a wolf practically out of a storybook came back. Much larger than they would ever be in the wild, it looked very powerful, the thick muscles in it's shoulders and it's muzzle full of teeth. He was mesmerized a moment, it was beautiful and fearsome. He reached for it before jerking back his hand, remembering he wasn't supposed to touch her like this. "You're gorgeous," he said softly.

Ruby gave a soft woof of thanks at the compliment. It was pretty difficult to communicate when she was like this, so she simply sat back on her haunches and let him get a good look at her wolf form.

Bucky feeling that was tacit permission to look his fill, walked around her checking her out. She was very beautiful in this form. He couldn't wait to get home and tell Steve he'd seen a wolf that was also a woman. Steve would be sad he didn't see this to draw it.

"It's really incredible," he said softly as he looked her over from all sides, marveling. When he got back to facing her, he wasn't sure what to do so he ended up bowing a little. "Thank you so much for letting me see."

Once he seemed to be done looking, Ruby got up and trotted back to the copse of trees where she left her clothes. A few minutes later, she came back in her human form, fully dressed. Part of her was tempted to walk back out naked, but she got the sense that Bucky wouldn't appreciate that as much as some others would.

"So, anyway, I should probably get going," she said.

"Sure. Thank you again for letting me see your other form. That's rather incredible. It doesn't hurt, changing, does it?" He was still awed by the whole display.

"No problem," Ruby said. "And, no, it doesn't."

The part that hurt was when she didn't have control over what she did in that form. Luckily, that was no longer an issue.

"Well, I'll see you tomorrow for more training and then on Wednesday? We can talk about when we can pick up the hens and chicks?" Bucky was already really excited to get them and learn more.

Ruby grinned. "I'll see you then."
