Mack still wasn't sure about this place. It all seemed a little too good to be true. The beauty of this place was almost magical. It really was some kind of paradise. The island itself was breathtaking. And yes, so were some of the women here. He wasn't blind. He also wasn't blind to what sometimes constituted the building of a new society. He did volunteer to be here, after all.
That wasn't the real reason he signed on, though. He just needed to get away from home for awhile. Things back there weren't the best. This was almost like vacation to him, a vacation from the craziness back home. He was still pretty rattled by the loss of his closest friends. Sure, it was the nature of the spy business. Agents got burned sometimes. His two best friends had taken one for the team, and now they were out there somewhere in the world, wandering and trying to make it on the run. They knew the deal when they joined an organization like S.H.I.E.L.D. He knew it, too.
When he was offered the chance to get away, it was after he'd been shot protecting his brother from the Watchdog group. Of course he would have taken a bullet for any of his family. His brother, his teammates...Nearly losing his brother seemed to be that final straw for him. He needed a real break. Really, who could argue with paradise? He couldn't argue with being completely healed, either.
He already liked the atmosphere here. There was something simple about it. He didn't even mind having to build a shelter. It was nice to just start everything from scratch. Being a mechanic, though, with an engineering background, he'd been constantly working on this since he arrived here. Everytime he thought he was finished, he had more ideas of how to make it better, sturdier. Today was no different.
The roof just needed something more.
