WHO: Patty Spivot and Chris Argent
WHERE: Chris' shelter
WHEN: Tuesday Morning
WHAT:  Patty trying to be spontaneous?
WARNINGS: Mentions of nudity most likely because Patty, TBD
STATUS: Closed/Incomplete

Why not take a crazy chance?

Patty didn't know what the hell she was doing. She just knew that ever since her arrival in this place she felt like she had been walking through a haze and doing everything backwards, between sleeping with Ray a little more than what could be justifiably 'casual' but still less than 'significant' and struggling with her feelings for Barry. It was all so overwhelming, and Patty was nearing the end of her rope, unsure of how much further she could go and how much more she could do. She was too shy to reach out, and because of that, she had hit a sort of wall.

That was until Chris showed up. She didn't know what it was about him, he was obviously significantly older than she was and he probably didn't want anything to do with a woman almost half his age on sex island but... he was attractive. And Patty needed to start taking chances or she would be stuck in this spiral of Barry and Ray forever. So, she grabbed a large banana leaf, left her shelter, and walked her way over to Chris' new one where he had probably just managed to settle in before sticking her head in the doorway.

"Hello?" She held the banana leaf in front of her because yes, she was unashamed and thought that this whole 'wear your clothes all the time and get them dirty and ruined' thing was ridiculous, but she was also aware that some people weren't remarkably comfortable with nudity, even if it was limited to topless. She saw him and offered a cheery smile, holding the leaf out with hopeful eyes. "Hi! You're Chris, right? I'm Patty. I brought you a leaf umbrella... just in case you were stuck in the rain again at some point. You can use it, they work really well. Oh!" Her face turned a little pink. She was remarkably bad at this. "I'm Patty. Patty Spivot."

Chris looked up, startled simply because he wasn't expecting anyone to come by -- much less an attractive young woman. ... even if it was an attractive young woman brandishing a banana leaf and making big doe eyes at him.

"That's very thoughtful of you," he said with a smile. "You want to come in for a minute?"

Hey, it was really the least he could do after she'd brought him something. A banana leaf in this place was a goddamn thoughtful present, okay? Okay! And besides which, he'd been raised to have manners -- or at least to be able to pretend he had them, if nothing damn else.

Chris invited her in and Patty looked a little surprised, but she smiled brightly and gave a nod. "I would love that, thank you!" This was going good, right? This was going alright? She was in his shelter, and he was a stranger and this place was literally all about having sex with strangers. He was older and rugged looking and painfully attractive, so if Patty was going to try to expand her horizons with a stranger... it might as well be a pretty one.

She placed the leaf down inside, deciding that holding it in front of herself the entire time just to save him from the awkwardness of seeing her topless was a little ridiculous, and she looked back at him to nervously brush her hair behind her ear. "I just wanted to come by and see how you were settling in. I know that you're new here..."

"Well, there are people from home here, which helps," Chris said with a smile, unable to keep from checking her out. What? She was an attractive young woman and she was naked, and she was right there in front of him. He felt like that made it acceptable for him to at least look.

But he looked away before it became ogling. Because that was a little creepy.

"Have a seat," he said. "Stay a while. Not that there's really much of anywhere in the way of places to sit yet, but it's the thought that counts or something like that I suppose."

"Good! That's good," Patty encouraged as she brushed her hair out of her face again, standing nervously with her hands clasped before her as she stared a him. He was such an attractive man, but that didn't make this any easier. Patty was shy, especially when it came to something like making a move. She couldn't help herself from shying away a little, and she knew she had to stop that because Arva brought her here for a reason. She didn't want to get sent back home because she wasn't contributing... so she needed to bite the bullet and actually move forward. It seemed to be easier in her head to do that with someone she didn't know, but now she was here, she wasn't so sure.

"I know some people here from home, too. It's nice to have familiar faces." She continued as she moved in further, and he smiled a little before shifting to sit on the ground with her back against his shelter wall, big eyes looking up at him curiously. She could do this. She was pretty, right? And she could be confident. She could do this.

"I'm not the first person to visit you, am I? I kind of expected to see a girl here, already..."

"You are, actually," Chris said. "Really, the only person I've seen on any consistent face-to-face basis -- " Because of course there'd been bonfire, and of course there was randomly seeing people around. " -- has been Isaac. He's someone from home," he added. "My daughter's ex-boyfriend, actually."

It was easier to call Isaac that than delve into the truth of the matter. For one thing, that involved way too many explanations that involved wanting alcohol that they didn't have. For another, that involved violating an unspoken pact between him and Isaac, and that just wasn't going to happen.

"I was looking after Isaac, actually, just before we ended up here," he said. "Not that he needed much looking after -- he's damn near a grown adult, well capable of it himself. But not long after his father's death, and after Allison's... he needed someone, I needed someone, so I took him in for a while." It seemed a reasonable enough explanation of things, and one that even had the added bonus of basically being true. True enough.

"Oh yes, I know Isaac. I mean, I don't know him, but I've seen him around," Patty confirmed with a little smile, although there was a curiosity there in her eyes. It seemed like a strange type of relationship, to be close with your daughters ex-boyfriend, and when the realization hit her, her smile faltered just a bit. Everybody had seen the way that Isaac had argued with two different people, one a boy - Scott, she thinks it was - and the other Malia, and in both instances he spoke of his past girlfriend as having passed away. Patty really hoped that it wasn't the same girlfriend... she had lost her own father. She didn't want to think about what it must felt like for Chris to lose a daughter.

But then he continued and confirmed her fears, and her face softened with empathy as she patted the floor beside her where she sat. "I'm sorry to hear that," she spoke in a soft voice that dripped in sympathy, bending her legs so she could hug her knees close to her. "That's beautiful, though. That you two found comfort in each other, I think that's important. A lot of people don't have anyone to find comfort in after they lose a loved one. I'm glad you had each other. And now you're both here!" She finished with a little lift, as if trying to look at the bright side. "So you can see each other again. I think that's pretty great, right?"

Chris shifted, moving to sit next to Patty. "I do, too," he said softly. "Because I had to up and leave him after a while -- family obligation that came up -- and we haven't seen each other in... a while." That covered it well enough, since it'd been a different length of time for each of them.

He laughed softly. "I think Isaac's brain broke a little, though, when he had to wrap it around me being here given the actual purpose of this island given the 'sex and babies' part. Which, I suppose I can't fault him. No teenager wants to think of their parental figure having sex."

Sorry, Isaac. Get used to it. Get used to it a lot.
