Lydia Martin personifies ([info]eunoia) wrote in [info]paradisolog,
Lydia was quiet, watching him as he moved to lie down, staring at the ceiling for a moment before turning his head to look back at her. The first words out of his mouth weren't a surprise. Lydia had seen that post start to blow up and had extracted herself from reading it before she felt inclined to respond to someone and make things even worse. But she got the gist. And honestly, she couldn't blame the girl. Lydia knew Malia a little, she knew that words were just words until she had an actual reason. She knew that Malia was emotional because of the hormones and she knew that because she was experiencing it herself. ...but some new person had no way of knowing any of it, so of course that was a scary 'welcome' to have received.

So Lydia nodded, frowning. That was a shame. Her teeth worried at her bottom lip as she listened, while Isaac went on and she couldn't help wondering how he was even speaking so calmly right then. Lydia would've been shouting by now, she was sure of it, if she was in his shoes. But then Lydia didn't have the level of patience that Isaac so clearly displayed. Isaac had the patience of a saint...and still, he'd finally come to the end of his rope. It hurt her to see him so upset, because she could see that it bothered him so much because he cared. He cared so much about people; about this place and this project and the disregard that Malia was showing for all of those things was killing him, Lydia could see that now.

When he finished speaking, Lydia laid down beside him, turning on her side with her head on the other pillow facing him. "You're not that kind of guy, Isaac. I'm still getting to know you but I know that. If she doesn't, then she doesn't know you at all," she said softly. And...even though she knew that she probably shouldn't, for so, so many reasons, Lydia reached for his hand and gave it a squeeze before lacing her fingers through his. She ignored the electric jolt and fluttering in her stomach when she did it, because those feelings were completely irrelevant right now. Right now, he needed support and that was why she was here.

"She's creating a self-fulfilling prophecy," she realized quietly aloud and Lydia frowned, feeling the littlest twinge of sympathy for the other girl because she probably didn't even know that she was paving the way for the one thing she wanted to avoid. "Nine more weeks. That's it. Nine more weeks and maybe she'll go back to normal, whatever that is." Long shot considering she wasn't behaving much better when she first arrived, but still.

Lydia moved closer on the bed until she could almost rest her head on his shoulder or against his own head, but not quite. Maybe if she was close enough that he could hear the steady sound of her heartbeat and the hopefully steady little one of the baby, it would become a sort of white noise that could help him relax some more. Her own heartbeat alone would be just that; a heartbeat thumping in his ears, she suspected. But if she was close enough that he could hear the baby's heartbeat, too, maybe it would just sound like...sounds.
