Bonnie had made it to the main camp and had found most to be incredibly friendly. It was almost a little worrisome but then she remembered that they all wanted to be here. Just like she did. SO why wouldn't people be welcoming? They were all in this together and they could obviously use the help. Building a new society wasn't easy. It wasn't like in school where you just discussed the basics and then got right into politics. No, this was going to be hard work, but she knew, she just knew, it would be worth it in the end. Sure she felt bad leaving behind her friends but hadn't they done the same from time to time? Decisions were often made that put others at risk for the life of another, or for the chance to let someone live the life they wanted. People said good bye because they just couldn't take it anymore and she felt it. To her bones she felt it, and she wanted to give up. Except giving up wasn't really something Bonnie Bennett did. So this was perfect. She wasn't giving up, she was starting again and this time, building something worth while. At the main camp, she had ended up spending her first night in a communal sleeping area since by the time she got settled in she had been too tired and it had been too late to try and build her own shelter. She rose this morning with the sun and instead of complaining she felt refreshed and basked in the soft light that warmed up the dew on the ground. It was almost magical to watch and when she heard others stirring she decided to start on her own place. Space of her own would be greatly appreciated and she already had an idea. So she found a place not too far from the main camp but still giving her some space. The kind of place that if you were camping it would afford a nice sized tent and some shade during the day. Grabbing a large stick she mapped out a large circle and then went foraging. Getting as many sticks of the right size, more like branches, and then leaves and vines. She found something large enough to use to dig a bit and started there. Not a hole so much as a dip in the earth in the shape of a circle. Large enough that if she put a small fire in the center, she could still get around and sleep a safe distance from it. The digging took a long enough time and now she had to set the branches in the ground sticking straight up all around the circle. Leaving a space for a person to enter. Then she would weave. Weave walls for the small hut. She had gotten the idea after studying native tribes and all the different ways they built shelter. Except the sun was high now and she was looking a mess as she sat in the center of her sticks and started getting leaves and vines ready for weaving. This was probably going to take more than a day. |
