It was hard being in paradise when you knew that your presence was causing someone else — someone you loved — such tremendous pain. Barry wasn't sure why both he and Patty had been invited here. Was this supposed to be a chance for them to get the happy ending they didn't have back in Central City? It was a nice thought, but he was pretty sure that Patty was never going to forgive him for lying to her, and he couldn't even blame her for that.
The worst part was that he wanted to tell her the truth. He almost had, on more than one occasion, but something always happened to interrupt and then, well, he just couldn't live with himself if being with him was going to put her in constant danger. He had already lost too many people and he loved Patty too much to risk losing her too.
He knew it wasn't fair for him to make that decision for her, as she was so quick to remind him, but that didn't mean he wouldn't make the same choice if given the opportunity to go back. So many people had suffered because of him and the choices he made, he couldn't bear the thought of someone as good and kind as Patty not being part of the world because she had the bad luck to fall for him.
Cisco seemed to be doing well here and that was something Barry was grateful for. His friend deserved to be happy. Everyone who was part of Team Flash did. But given Patty's presence, Barry was having a difficult time settling in and hadn't made any overtures to any of the very attractive ladies who were here. He knew he was going to have to eventually, but he just wasn't ready for that.
Instead, he threw himself into building his shelter, following the same sort of design as Cisco, and spent a lot of time running around the island. People seemed to be open here about special abilities, but he wasn't quite ready to take the leap and confess at large that he was The Flash, so most of his running was at regular human speeds.
Which was probably a good thing, because if he had been running fast, he might not have noticed the naked young man sleeping on the shore. It was unusual enough to catch Barry's attention and the part of him that was driven to be the Flash couldn't keep running without checking on the guy.
"Hey, man, you okay?" he asked, jogging over and standing a few feet away when he called out.
