Even though the other woman's voice was soft spoken, the mere presence was startling. She was sure no one would be bothered coming back here this late, unless they were trying to hook up and if that was the case, she doubted they would've noticed her anyway.
Lydia took in a sharp breath and, frantically wiped at her eyes, tilting her head forward to create a curtain of hair behind which she hoped she could hide the movement. She cleared her throat and shook her head without looking up. The voice didn't sound familiar but that was just as well, as far as Lydia was concerned.
"I'd rather be alone," she finally said, disappointed that her voice still sounded watery even after she'd given herself an especially long pause to try to collect herself before speaking. "Thank you, anyway, but I just...I just want to be alone right now."
