Chloe had spent a lot of time back home in Metropolis avoiding thinking about Jimmy’s death. She’d thrown herself into the Watchtower project and focused on her friends. The last bit of manipulation she’d planned out had been a roaring success. Ollie was cleaned up and back in the green suit. Thanks to her. She’d been feeling pretty good about herself, at least until she was alone and thoughts of Jimmy flooded back in. That night she’d been given an offer that would definitely take her mind off of being a young widow. Chloe hadn’t hesitated. It meant leaving everything and everyone she knew, but all of that just reminded her of everything she’d lost. She couldn’t say no.

Now she found herself on a tropical island with only the smallest amount of technology. The temptation to take it apart to see how it worked and maybe make it function in different and better ways was great, but it was the only communication she had with the other people she’d been told would be here. Her fingers were already itching for a laptop! But the promise of a new adventure was enough of a distraction. For now.

She’d talked with a couple of people and got directions to the main camp. The waterfall she’d been told about had been a momentary distraction. Chloe had never seen any place like this before! It was so beautiful. She wanted to explore, learn what else the island had, but good sense kept her moving after a brief pause to admire the scenery. Finally she reached the camp. A sudden bout of nerves had her bite her lip and hang back for a moment. There were more people than she thought there’d be. She told herself she was being ridiculous and forced herself forward with something of a shy smile on her face.

Ruby was working on curing and treating some of the animals hides they had gathered. Now that they had someone who could make needles out of bones and actually sew, they could get some blankets and new clothes going. She caught an unfamiliar scent and looked up, figuring there was a new person around. Even if she hadn't actually met all of the other volunteers, she had mentally cataloged the usual scents.

Spotting the nervous looking blonde, she put aside the deerskin she was working on and stood. "Hey, you must be new. I'm Ruby," she said, glancing down at her hands. "Uh, I'd offer to shake, but you probably don't really want to do that right now." Her hands were kind of gross at the moment and she was hanging out in her underwear and tank top again, having decided that wearing anything more was overrated.

Chloe turned when she heard someone address her. She smiled initially, but then her brows went up for the woman...Ruby's...state of undress and what she had been doing.

"Hey," she said back, drumming her smile back up. "Yeah. Newb. I'm Chloe. Nice to meet you, Ruby." Her eyes went to Ruby's hands as she chuckled. "Uh, yeah. I see that." Then she cleared her throat. "So apparently they weren't kidding about the primitive thing." She wasn't speaking about just the deer skins.

"Nice to meet you, Chloe." Ruby wasn't shy about giving the girl a once over. She was cute, in a wholesome sort of way that kind of reminded Ruby of a combination of Snow and Emma. "And, yeah, we're definitely rocking the primitive here. It's been interesting so far."

And it was only going to keep getting interesting, with people already pregnant. "Glad you found the main camp okay."

Chloe wasn't exactly used to being checked out, and especially not by a girl. Usually it was Lois that was getting the looks. She may have blushed a little under Ruby's scrutiny.

"That guy Barry gave good directions." She assumed everyone already here knew everyone else. "So uh...what's the protocol for new arrivals? Just jump in and help? Some sort of tropical hazing tradition?"

Ruby nodded. She hadn't met Barry yet, but she was pretty sure he was a fairly recent arrival. It seemed like more people were showing up every day and that was pretty cool.

"Most people try to figure out some sort of shelter," she said. "There are a handful of community ones available until you sort out your own. And then basically, yeah, I mean, you can jump in and help with whatever you're good at."

Great. Help out with whatever she was good at. Outside of a computer or investigating a story that was a whopping zilch.

"Figure out a shelter," she said with a nod then looked around. "How hard could that be?" Looking at the set up they had going. Rustic. Full on weekend warrior experience. "What all needs to be done? Other than uh..." she gestured toward the skins, "that."

	Ruby chuckled. "You can always ask for help, if you need it. We all have different skills that we can bring to the table. And some of the people who are more technologically or scientifically minded are learning new skills or just kind of hanging out until we get to a point where we can advance our society." She couldn't help but laugh along with Ruby. Chloe knew she would be pretty much hopeless until things progressed to a certain point, but she was at least willing to give it her best shot to learn new things until then.

"Well, I don't want to just hang out. If I'm not doing something I'll drive someone insane and then things get ugly." She smiled as she shrugged. "If you aren't too busy think you could help me pick a shelter?"

	That caught Chloe entirely off guard. She blinked exactly once before bursting into giggles. Such a mundane point, but an important one all the same. 	Ruby thought she was very cute when she blushed, but she wasn't getting any kind of 'into ladies' vibes which was a little disappointing. Oh well. Couldn't win them all. Anyone who knew Chloe well could tell Ruby never to assume anything about the petite blonde. As open as she may seem she played a lot of things close to the vest. It could be that the only reason Ruby wasn't getting any 'into ladies' vibes was because Chloe had never been presented with the opportunity. She was good at keeping people guessing.

Chloe's brows lifted as she sensed the unfamiliar. The unknown. It perked her curiosity right up. "The what now?"

"The Enchanted Forest," Ruby repeated. "This may sound crazy, but since you're on an island created by gods and goddesses, maybe not."

Maybe people wouldn't think she was crazy if she opened up a little about who she actually was. "It's basically a place where the characters that people know from fairy tales actually live. Like I was Little Red Riding Hood."

With a twist. But she didn't want to scare the poor girl.

Chloe's eyes had been opened to the realm of all possibilities a long time ago. She herself had been possessed by an intelligence that made MENSA members look like the village idiot. Her reaction to what Ruby told her barely lifted her brows, but the reason for her stunned blink wasn't disbelief.

"Fairy tales," she said a little flatly. Then her eyes looked Ruby over and she couldn't help but smirk a little. "I almost want to know what the Big Bad Wolf looks like." She chuckled quietly then moved on.

"So are we talking the cleaned up Mother Goose versions or the original darker than the fifth level of hell Brothers Grimm?"

	Ruby pointed at herself when Chloe said she wanted to know what the Big Bad Wolf looked like. "A little from column A and a little from column B," she said. Chloe's brows shot right up as she blinked in real surprise this time. "You're Red and Big Bad?" Those blonde brows came right back down into a puzzled scowl. "How does that work? That's...so Freudian it hurts my brain."

She was going to ponder that one for days, she just knew it. She'd lost sleep for less! "So a bit of fluff, a bit of dark and random bursts of song. I think I'd like to see that."

"Werewolf," she said, that curiosity of hers spiking to new levels. "Interesting!" There was absolutely no sign of her being frightened, intimidated or similar reaction. "Were you born that way? Or are some of the legends true? There's bitten. A thing about drinking water from the print of a wolf..." And she was rambling again about something that was possibly very personal. She gave Ruby a meek smile. "Sorry. None of my business."

Chloe was obviously enraptured by this. An awed smile brightened up her entire face.

"That is amazing!" Her mind immediately came up with a thousand more questions, but she realized she was being a bit rude. And nosy. She could almost hear Clark saying her name with that chiding tone of his.

"Sorry," she said with a sheepish shrug of her shoulders. "I find something I've never run into before and I forget to mind my manners."
