Derek watched Sara lower herself to put her legs in the water. Almost every woman he'd seen so far on the network had been impossibly pretty. Some weren't really his type and he wasn't interested, but he could see the general appeal, all the same. He nodded his acknowledgement as she spoke and he swam a little closer to keep them both from having to shout, not that he needed her to, but she seemed to be calling out by reflex and he might as well save their voices.
A huff of amusement escaped him followed by a bit of a chuckle with more volume. "How very glass half-empty of you," he pointed out playfully. Although, admittedly, some habits died hard and he couldn't imagine that he was going to be looking at a half full glass, himself, anytime soon so Derek probably shouldn't be throwing stones in that particular house of glass.
"Nah, I kind of gave up. As it turns out, I really suck at building stuff when you take away my tools," he replied with another little shrug as he slowed the pace at which his legs were moving to tread water beneath himself so that he would lower a little further, cooling off his shoulders before rising again. "I don't really need a shelter that bad. I'll get it eventually, but I'm not in a rush," he added. He had alternatives. They weren't awesome or preferable, but they were there.
