WHAT: Isaiah has a proposal for Rose
WHEN: Afternoonish, a few days ago
WARNINGS: None, I think
STATUS: Closed & Complete
Isaiah was enjoying life on the island. He’d made some good friends, he was happy to be getting to know Ella and it was good to spend time with Cami again. Even if she did constantly tease him about who he was having sex with. The truth was that he had waited a bit before he slept with anyone because he’d never had sex and he’d been nervous but his first time had been with Rose, whom he trusted and who was his friend in addition to be someone he was very attracted to and it had been everything he’d hoped it would be and hopefully she hadn’t been disappointed. There had been a couple of others but he always found himself coming back to Rose because while the sex was great, he enjoyed just talking to her as well. Which was why when he started thinking about having a baby, she was the only person he seriously considered. Maybe it was too soon but he thought that he should do his part and once he met Rose, Isaiah didn’t see any need to wait. She might feel differently but he would never know if he didn’t ask. He knocked on the side of her shelter’s entrance and called “Rose? You here?” It was hard to keep the nervousness out of his voice but somehow he managed. Of course that might last a grand total of five minutes once he actually got around to saying what he had come here to say. Rose had claimed a room in the dorms that had been built, but she still kept her shelter for the times when she felt like having a little more peace and quiet. Today was one of those times when she’d felt like being away from the confines of communal living. Her shelter was adequate against the elements, but being here still felt somehow freer than being in the group housing. There were times like now when she really preferred being here. “Come in,” she called, grinning as she immediately recognized Isaiah’s voice. They’d been spending a lot of time together since she’d met him on the beach that day several weeks ago and she really had no complaints about that. He was gorgeous, fun to talk to and a really good kisser. Even when they weren’t getting physical, she liked hanging out with him. “Hey, you,” she said, flashing him a bright smile as he came into view. “What’s up?” He leaned in to kiss her and then gave her a hug before he sat down on the end of the bed before pulling her down beside him. “I was just out wandering around and thought I’d see if you were here,” he said, doing his best to sound casual. “I had something I wanted to talk to you about and this seemed like a good time. Don’t worry...it’s nothing bad.” At least he hoped she wouldn’t think it was bad. Rose was happy to kiss him for a moment and definitely wasn’t disappointed by the surprise visit. She couldn’t help but be wary when he said he had something to talk to her about. The last time someone had said something about that to her, it had been Oliver needing to tell her Felicity was pregnant. She figured whether it was bad was a matter of perspective. “What is it?” she asked him, doing her best to keep her expression neutral. Isaiah had no idea what the proper way to do this was but he figured that he might as well just come out with with it. “Would you like to have a baby with me? I’ve been thinking that I’d like to do that and there isn’t anybody else that I’d want to do that with.” He was afraid she’d say no and he mentally crossed his fingers. “You want to have a baby with me?” It was a stupid question considering he'd just said he did, but she was too surprised to say much else. The idea that she'd been someone's first choice shocked her, but it was in a good way. Her face betrayed her surprise, but she also couldn't help smiling at him, at the idea that of all the people on the island he could do this with, he wanted her. “Yeah I do. I mean why wouldn’t I? You’re great, Rose. We’re good together, we’d made a pretty cute kid, don’t you think?” Isaiah smiled at her. “You seem surprised, why is that?” Rose shrugged, not wanting to admit the truth to him. “I guess I don't think I'm the kind of girl guys want to have a kid with,” she said. “I'm the girl you flirt your ass off with and have a lot of fun with, but I'm not exactly maternal.” It was almost the truth but she held back from telling him she didn't think she'd be anyone’s first choice. “I just figured that being maternal was something you kind of learned as you went along,” he said. “I don’t know anything about being a father either and I wasn’t exactly raised in a conventional way but there are enough people around to help us out,” he reached for her hand. “If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I wouldn’t want you to do anything you weren’t comfortable with but I really hope you’ll at least think about it because I really would like for you to.” “It’s not that I don’t want to,” Rose said. She couldn’t help smiling as her fingers twined with his. Was she ready to have a baby? She had no idea, but she loved the idea that he wanted her. Of all people, he wanted her to be the mother of his first child. “Why me, though?” she asked. Maybe a part of her was trying to stall making a decision, but she also wanted to know. “Because we both know what it’s like to be different from everyone else,” he said. “You understand me and my were stuff and it doesn’t bother you. Some girls would be scared of that, Even if I can ask Arva not to let that pass down, just the idea that it might would spook them. But not you. Plus you’re my friend, I like being with you, and I want to help you while you’re pregnant, I won’t let you do it all by yourself and whatever you decide to do when the baby’s born, I’ll support you. Whether you want to give the baby to Arva or not.” Isaiah had no idea how he felt about either option at the moment. While he knew that being raised in the temple wasn’t a bad thing at all, he also would like to see his son or daughter grow up in the regular way. They had time to decide that though. “It doesn't bother you that it would be half vampire?” she asked, still kind of amazed he was asking her to do this. In all honesty, she didn't know for sure how that would work. As far as she knew, werewolves didn't exist in her world. If they did, there was a good chance dhampirs wouldn't be able to procreate with them. It was different here, though, and she assumed that if she wanted to pass her own abilities down - and she did - the baby would be a dhampir, like her. Unconsciously, her hand drifted to her stomach, which would be a lot less flat in a few weeks or so if they really decided to do this. She didn't hate the idea. There was maybe even a part of her that really wanted to. “I'll have to talk to Arva,” she told him as she looked into his ridiculously blue eyes. “Normally, I don't think I could actually have a baby with you. You're not human or dhampir, so it's hard to know for sure, but I'll have to get her to fix that before we can, you know, actually make a baby. “I’m half human,” he pointed out.”My mom is just a regular person. She told me that they were allowed to choose whether or not to pass down the were gene and my dad wanted to. You know Chris Chapel? Well his dad is super fast but he didn’t want to pass that down so he asked Arva to fix that. So I’m sure she can fix whatever we want fixed. And I don’t care if our baby is half vampire, the important part is that it’s half me and half you. The other stuff doesn’t matter. I don’t want to pass down my stuff but what you can do is a lot cooler than growing hair in weird places and howling at the moon.” “Hey, you can do some cool stuff, too,” she pointed out, shifting a little closer to him. “Your senses are even better than mine, you can run fast and you’re a great swimmer.” Grinning more mischievously, she moved even closer, leaning up until her lips were close to his. “You’re good at a few other things, too,” she added. “What you are isn’t a bad thing, Isaiah. Your biology might make you a little different than most of the other people on this island, but that doesn’t make it’s bad. It just makes you special.” He leaned his forehead against hers and smiled. “Well you’re pretty good at a few things yourself. And thank you for saying that but I’m fine with our kid being like you.” He paused for a moment. “So we’re having a kid?” He raised an eyebrow at her. “I meant it. We don't have to pass that part of you on if you really don't want to, but who you are is awesome. All of you.” Laughing, she nodded her head. “I guess we are,” she said. She hadn't even realized she made a decision, but she was talking like she had. That's what made it sink in that she had. That she really did want to do this. “Unless you've changed your mind and want to go knock up Lady Mary or something,” she joked. Isaiah laughed. “No, I don’t want to knock up Lady Mary or anybody else. Just you.” he kissed her. “So then it’s settled. Do you want me to go with you when you talk to Arva? I will if you want.” “Just me, huh?” Rose grinned. “I kind of like the sound of that.” She thought about his offer for a moment and then shook her head. “That's okay. That's not really the part I need you for,” she half-joked. “You should probably just rest up so I don't wear you out too much.” “Just you.” he kissed her again. “But yeah, I’ll rest up so we’re ready to go when everything’s good.” Isaiah laughed. “We’re making a baby. I’m happy about that.” Isaiah touched her face and smiled at her. This was going to be an adventure and he couldn’t wait. |
