Who: Johanna Mason and Cisco Ramon
What: Random conversation of some kind or other, who knows?
When: Thursday evening
Where: The community center
Warnings: None at the moment but we'll get back to you if we need to
Status: Closed/On-going

It was a lazy day for Johanna -- an unstructured kind of lazy day, the kind where you had nothing you had to do -- and she'd spent most of it on the beach. As the evening rolled around, though, she eventually headed back to her shelter and changed before wandering off to the community center. She was beyond grateful they'd built it, was glad she'd helped. So many of them had helped, yeah, but she was grateful for her part in it. That'd been the very start of her settling in, she thought. Not that it'd been a fast process after that, but she'd had to start somewhere after all.

She'd wandered around the center for a while, being variously useful, before settling in a chair with a book. Johanna had never been much of a reader, but being on the island had let her have a chance to become more of one. Being out of Panem was a godsend -- never mind that they were rebuilding, it was still a nightmare in a lot of ways. The nightmares, the not having enough, the struggling to figure out how you were going to make it.

It was kind of the darkside version of life on the island and minus all the sex, really.

She glanced up from the book as she heard footsteps, offering the person a smile.

The mapping was finally starting to come together but they were still a long way from figuring out how to be a calendar togther. Hopefully with Elizabeth helping since she'd actually navigated by the stars, they would get it done sooner rather than later. he'd put the things away and after grabbing something to eat in the kitchen, he was heading out for a swim before going to bed.

As he headed for the door, he spotted Johanna sitting there and decided to go over and speak to her. They'd talked a little after Lustre's departure and he'd enjoyed their conversation. He wasn't sure if she knew that Nora was here and he wanted to let her know, it would probably be good for Nora to talk to someone who had known Lustre longer than he had and who knew the place that she'd come fron.

"Hey," he said when he reached her and sat down in the chair next to hers. "What's up?"

"Not a whole lot, actually," she said with a shrug. "Such is the story of my life lately." Said with a smile, though. Because she wasn't complaining by any means -- she'd rather have not a whole lot going on than entirely too much -- she'd had "entirely too much" before, and she'd like to not go there again. Because going there had kind of involved a rebellion.

She'd stick with the rebuilding, thanks.

"What about you?" she asked, looking at him curiously. "What's up in your life? We haven't talked in a little bit."

"Working on the calendar project," he said with a nod toward the table. "It's not going as fast as I'd like but we'll get there. I kinda just want to say that we should just make a decision that there are 12 months and they all have 30 days and be done with it. Even if that's not the way it works here." Cisco laughed. "Although no one really knows how it works here so we get to make the cass I suppose."

He sat back in the chair and got comfortable. "Other than that, I've been spending time with Nora, getting to know her. She's a good kid but it's weird that she's only six years younger than I am," he shook his head. "but yeah, I like her. Feels weird when she calls me 'dad'' though. I never thought I'd have kids so this is new."

"Well, I'm glad you like her," she said. "I mean, it'd really suck if you didn't like your own kid, right?" She was pretty sure it would, anyway.

"A lot of us here never thought we'd have kids for whatever reason," Johanna said with a shrug. "You're not special there, mister." But the tone of her voice said she was clearly teasing -- and she was one of those people that when she wasn't, you knew it. Even if she wasn't being bitchy, you still knew when she wasn't teasing.

"It does suck, I speak from experience," he replied. "my mom always liked my brother better than me and I never got why that was. He's kind of an ass to be honest with you. He once told a girl I liked that I was entering the priesthood so that he could get a date with her. She believend him of course." Cisco snorted. "I've never had any urge to be a priest." Not that he didn't respect people who wanted to do that but it wasn't the life for him.

"Have you thought about it? Having a kid here, I mean," he was curious. "I'm not trying to get in your business, I'm just curious. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have had a kid at home, at least not for a long time, but it's different here."

"Well, I like you, if it helps any." She shrugged, because she wasn't so sure that it did, not when they barely knew each other.

At his question, she nodded. "I have," she said. "And it's a little strange, knowing that all I have to do is find someone who'd be willing to have a kid with me, that there doesn't necessarily need to be a relationship. Not bad, don't get me wrong. Kind of a relief. Just means that when I do have a kid, I actually have to find someone who'd be willing to have one with me. I'm not exactly always the friendliest of souls, after all."

She'd dealt with it.
