Reese needed to run. Oh, he wasn't going to be forced into it any time soon, it hadn't been that long objectively since he'd last Changed. But it had been long enough that he was craving that freedom, and he had found himself trying to come up with excuses for it. This morning, he'd come up with one - a good one. The camp needed meat. They hadn't perfected fishing yet, although that Finnick guy was assuring everyone that he knew what he was doing and had apparently been working on making rods and reels and hooks and such.
But Reese knew that he could contribute in his own way, if he could just find a time when he was less likely to be noticed in his wolf form. He didn't want to cause alarm, or, even worse, get himself shot. And even though the other werewolves seemed more open here, the privacy statute they had back home was a hard habit to break.
This morning, he'd headed out early, going deep into the woods to a place where he felt he was far enough from the rest of camp to change without the fear of anyone seeing. It was a werewolf's most vulnerable time, that ten minutes when their body was contorted in hideous ways, and it wasn't exactly something that he wanted to share with people he didn't know well enough to trust. When he was Changed, a large blonde wolf trotted out of the brambles, sniffing the ground. It felt good...liberating to be in this form, and his nose quickly picked up a scent. He tracked it to a clearing, where he found a large deer munching on the wet morning grass. He crouched, laying in wait, making sure he was downwind from it. At the perfect moment, he leapt out, and the chase had begun. It was, perhaps, the most exhilarating part of being in this form - and he celebrated in the running.
When he finally overtook the deer, his powerful jaws and teeth ripped out it's throat cleanly and clearly, leaving it only a few seconds to bleed out before the light faded from its eyes. He kept himself from digging into the warm underbelly, and instead went back into the woods, retrieved his clothes, and changed back into his human form. The deer was for everyone, not just for him.
Grabbing it by the legs, he started dragging it back to camp. They would have meat today.
