James did sometimes leave his boat, even if it was usually in order to gather supplies and then quickly return. He was much more comfortable on water than on land, even though he knew that the ocean could not provide everything for him. Today he was searching for some fresh fruit to supplement his diet. Perhaps if he found something really nice he would give some to Elizabeth.
The crashing sound through the trees made him jump nearly out of his skin. He quickly drew his sword, which he kept at his side. If it was some sort of predator, he wanted to be ready. When he heard the gasp of pain and saw the young lady lying on the ground, he sheathed his sword and hurried over to her.
"Are you alright, miss?" Where had she even come from? Had she fallen out of the sky? And why was there an odd-looking broom lying next to her?
