CHARACTERS: Elizabeth Swann and OTA
SETTING: Along the beach
SUMMARY: Elizabeth reflects
RATING: TBD but it won't be smut (keep that in mind if you're tagging in!)
STATUS: In-progress | OPEN

In the few days since Elizabeth arrived on this island Paradise, she got herself settled in at the community center and the available dormitories. For now, at least. She wasn't certain how long she'd remain there. Some of the features and accommodations were foreign to her, futuristic, even. And she'd spent so much time in the past years on the sea that she didn't know if she'd like to remain on dry land like this. James had mentioned living on a boat, and she liked that idea. She was even tempted to seek him out to help, perhaps live with him. Yet their relationship was strained. She thought about all of the choices she'd made since he'd asked for her hand in marriage; how different her life would be if she had accepted. Or perhaps if she hadn't come into contact with Jack. Was Jack the catalyst for everything in her life lately? She knew he was one of the catalysts that caused her to decide to come here at Arva's invitation.

She walked barefoot along the beach, near the water's edge, and stopped for a moment as the sea water lapped against her ankles. She spotted a piece of sea glass, glimmering in the bright sunlight, and bent to pick it up. She wiped away the sand and held it up to look through. Little baubles like this used to fascinate her. She would walk along the beach at Port Royal and collect them. Nothing like the pirate's gold she took from Will on the crossing, and certainly nothing like the actual pirate's treasure she'd seen much more often later on. But here, she could go on collecting the shells and glass the sea dredged up. She slipped the piece into her pocket and took another step toward the water.

Of every place on the Island, the beach was Pepper's favorite. From swimming, to collecting shells for her beautiful collection, to walking along the shoreline and squishing the sand between her toes, she loved it all. Perhaps, having moved from Malibu where the ocean was accessible to New York where it wasn't quite had made her miss it immensely, so she found herself down at the shore more often than not. Now her trips to the beach involved Chayse, who seemed to find delight in having her feet dangled in the warm water or wading out deeper in the arms of her mother.

Right now, there were towels waiting where the sand was dry, as well as Chayse's clothes and diapers. Pepper had a large piece of fabric wrapped like a sarong around her tied at the shoulder, but Chayse was completely nude and all smiles as she was held above the water, waiting for the waves to wash over her. A bit of movement caught her eye and she waved and smiled at the person down the way.

Elizabeth turned and smiled back over at Pepper, who was carrying a baby into the water. Elizabeth didn't have much experience with babies, but that didn't mean she didn't like them. She walked along the path of the receding water towards Pepper. "Are all days like this?" she asked, tipping her face up into the sunlight. Even in the Caribbean, they had both days like this and sour days, or storms where the ship pitched to and fro along the rough sea.

Pepper lifted Chayse out of the water and balanced her on her hip, the baby grabbing handfuls of her mother's hair as was her habit once she was in reaching distance of the red locks. Walking up on shore to where their things were laying, Pepper put the baby down and wrapped her in a towel to dry her off. "Every day. We had snow for a few days which was a bit of an anomaly which no one can explain, and is probably the God's joke or something, but generally it's just nice weather, hot during the day, cooler at night."

"Snow?" Elizabeth echoed, looking around. The bright blue sky, cloudless sky. The bright sunshine. The warm air. "Here? You can't be serious." She sounded incredulous as she said it because she was incapable of imagining snow here. "I haven't seen snow since I was a very young girl."

"Yes, once and I think it lasted about five days before the sun came out again and the warm weather returned and it was like it hadn't even happened. Like I said, it was an anomaly and not something that happens all the time. The gods like to keep us on our toes and it's not always through the gifts they give us." Having finished drying off Chayse, Pepper put a diaper on her and dressed her in a thin long sleeved shift and put a little bonnet over her red hair. They were both fair skinned and prone to sunburn so the delicate baby skin needed to protected.

She settled Chayse in her lap and threw a towel over her shoulder, making the needed adjustments to nurse the baby discreetly before their long walk back to the village. "I do wish it would rain occasionally though. I'm all about varying weather to break the heat."
