After the little hiccup in their work sidetracking into a conversation about Malia, it only took Cam and Sydney about half an hour to finish up the rest of the spreadsheet. Because he was already well aware of the fact that she felt uncomfortable about the idea of sex because she'd never had it before, Cam tried really hard not to notice how cute she was when she was focused on something. It wasn't going to do him any good to think about stuff like that because he was not going to be the guy that tried to pressure someone into something they weren't ready to do.
When they finally finished, Cam let the arm he'd been holding up to view the screen of the network settle back at his side. "...I thought of something that maybe could potentially get added to that spreadsheet. Another column, just a yes or no one," he started awkwardly, "but it'd have to get updated on a semi-regular basis. And I'm not actually sure whether it's relevant or if I'm overthinking things, so...bear with me?"
He paused before finally continuing. "The gods said that if we don't want to conceive and we're just having sex for pleasure, then we won't conceive. So like...as far as island birth control goes, all you have to do is not want a baby to avoid getting pregnant. Which, I think is what most people are doing. But that said, given the scope of the project, maybe we should have a column in there that details whether someone is ready or interested in procreating at the moment. I kind of only even am considering it because if we're going to start delegating longer-term tasks based on the rest of the skills, wouldn't it be smarter to avoid delegating them to the people that are trying to start families and instead delegate shorter term projects to those people? You know, to not interrupt their...I mean whatever? Once they have the child, I mean? Or is that like something that you don't think'll matter because none of the projects we might work on would be long-term enough for that to even figure in?"
He was seriously asking, because he valued her opinion in this particular vein. It was more than clear that Sydney separated repopulation from building up the settlement and while Cam felt like they went hand in hand, the skill sets required for each were separate. He wasn't sure if it would matter enough to blur the lines on the labor spreadsheet instead of just telling Malia to throw it onto Sex Yelp if that was what she was planning to do. So the tone in his voice was soft and neutral and the expression on his face was focused and listening. There was no hint of a smirk that would suggest he was trying to get a rise out of her or anything on his face to suggest that he was making fun of her; he genuinely wondered whether that column would be useful information on her spreadsheet or not, and because he wasn't good at the whole survival outdoors thing, he had no way of knowing how long- or short-term any projects they took on as a group would be.
