The last couple of weeks had been hard for Cisco. There had been the excitement over Nora’s birth and then the pain of giving her to Arva. It was harder than he’d thought it would be even though he knew they were making the right decision but it was even harder for Lustre. He’d tried his best to be there for her but just a few days after Arva had taken Nora to live with her, Lustre had told him that she was going home. He’d tried to talk her out of it, knowing what kind of life she’d be facing if she went back but it was no use. In the end he’d had to tell her goodbye and while he wasn’t in love with her, he did care for her and it hurt to see her go. Not long after that, several people had left including Sara and that had hit him hard too. He was glad that Barry, Caitlin and Felicity were still here and Oliver too although he was still a little bit scared of Oliver and didn’t talk to him that much. When Wanda had replied to his message on the network and offered to go for a walk with him, he’d jumped at the chance. It would be good to get out and see more of the island plus he liked Wanda, she was a good neighbor and he’d helped her get electricity and things set up at her shelter. After they’d talked, he’d gone to gather a few things and then met her back at her shelter. “Hey,” he said, giving her a smile. “Ready to head out and see what we can find?” Wanda liked Cisco a lot and not just because she felt grateful to him for helping her with the electricity in her shelter or been a good neighbor. He was a nice guy who often made her laugh and whenever she talked, she found she enjoyed the conversation. Seeing him down now, she didn’t like that and she wanted to do what she could to help him through it, even if it didn’t seem like much. She’d left him to get some water and first aid supplied while she put together a few snack-type foods for them so that they would have something to eat if they ended up too far from the main camp area. It didn’t take long to get what she needed and soon they were meeting at her shelter. She nodded her head at his question. “Yes, I am,” she agreed. She was looking forward to it. Exploring was always nicer with a friend. “Hopefully we won’t run into any wild animals or giant monsters or anything,” he said with a grin. “Although I’m pretty sure this isn’t Jurassic Park.” If it was, they would have found dinosaurs or bodies or something by now. “After you, he said and let Wanda walk ahead of him. Cisco was glad that she’d agreed to go exploring with him. It would keep his mind off Lustre and the baby plus there was strength in numbers. Hopefully they wouldn’t have to worry about that though. Wanda laughed at that. “No, I think you are right,” she agreed. “This place seems to be much safer than there. No dinosaur sightings that I have heard of. I think there might be some bears, though.” She gave him a teasing grin. “Don’t worry, Cisco. I will protect you if we encounter anything dangerous.” She was happy to be here to explore with him, as well. It was a nice way to pass the time and it would be nice to spend some time with him. Usually, they were cooking or working on her shelter. That was fun, too, but it was a little like work. This would be something that was just them doing something for enjoyment. “Good because I really don’t want to run into any bears,” he replied. It was strange that there were bears here since they usually wouldn’t live in the tropics but the gods had provided a lot of things that normally wouldn’t be here. It was nice to be away from camp for a bit, it wasn’t that he didn’t like being there but every now and then Cisco liked some time to think. “Thanks for coming with me,” he said after they’d been walking for a few minutes. “It’s been a tough couple of weeks. I needed to just get away from everybody for a while but I didn’t want to be completely by myself either.” “Of course.” Wanda nodded her head, quiet for a moment and then without really thinking about it too much, she reached over and took his hand, giving it a light, supportive squeeze. “I may not know exactly what it is you are going through,” she said, “but I do know how it feels to lose someone you love, someone who was a very big part of you. Your situation is different from mine, but I know it hurts all the same..” Even now after so much time, she missed Pietro. Sometimes it felt like a part of her own soul was missing, gone for good. Even the family she'd found in the other Avengers could not fill the gaping hole in her heart where her twin had been. It wasn't like losing a child or a lover and neither of them had died, but she suspected the feeling of grief was similar. If she could help him through it by something as simple as this, she was happy to do it. Cisco was surprised when she took his hand but he didn’t resist. It felt nice being connected to another person and besides what man in his right mind would complain when a pretty girl took his hand? “Thanks. I’m not even sure I loved her, really,” he said, surprised at how easily he could say that, how comfortable he felt with Wanda. “But I cared about her. She’s a good person and she’s went back to really shitty world. That’s what bothers me but hopefully things get better. Finnick is from the same place and he said another person from there told him that things do get better in the future. I hope so.” They walked a little further before he spoke again. “I’m sorry about your brother. You must miss him a lot. My brother and I aren’t close at all but I’d still miss him if something happened.” things with Dante were complicated and probably always would be but he didn’t wish his brother ill. Grabbing his hand had been a friendly gesture, completely innocent, but Wanda was surprised to find that she liked how it felt. There was an extra warmth where their hands were joined and she didn't rush to let go, even if she probably should have. Maybe it was just that what they were talking about made the extra connection comforting. Speaking about Pietro didn't come easily. “Thank you,” she said, falling into a brief silence as she thought of her brother. With most people, she would have left it at that. With Cisco, she found herself saying more. “He was the other half of me,” she explained. “I cannot describe how it feels to have him gone. Empty, I guess. I have others in my life now, but none can't take the place of my brother.” “Dante and I are so different,” Cisco replied. “We’ve never understood each other. It doesn’t help that my mom always favored him.” He didn’t talk very much about his brother, Caitlin was the only person who really knew the whole story, but with Wanda it was easy. “I guess it’s even harder to lost a twin. Thankfully there’s only one of me, I don’t think the world could stand two.” he wanted to lighten the mood a little, make her smile, he could tell that this wasn’t easy for her. Wanda nodded. She knew not all siblings were as close as she and Pietro had been. Family dynamics could be different for different people. She and Pietro had only had each other for so long. It had only strengthened the bond between them. She laughed at his joke and shook her head. It had the effect he’d wanted, in making her smile. “Let’s go this way,” she suggested, pointing at something that vaguely resembled a trail. She didn’t mind talking, but they were really here to explore and she was ready to do that. “Looks good,” he agreed. “Someone must have been here before, it looks like it’s been cleared. Probably someone had had sex there, he thought since it pretty much seemed like there weren’t too many places on the island that hadn’t been used for that. They walked down the path and he was disappointed that he had to drop her hand since the area was narrow and they couldn’t walk side by side but when they reached the clearing, he stopped.”Wow, this is something,” he said, looking around. |
