WHO: Mary Crawley and OTA WHAT: Sewing clothes at the Community Center WHEN: Tuesday, midday WARNINGS: None/TBD STATUS: Open, Incomplete
Mary was nearly a month into her pregnancy, which on the island was equivalent to three months. Her stomach had grown to the point where clothing was starting to become uncomfortable, so she had to sew a few new things.
Thank goodness the gods had given her some new fabric. Not only were there luxury fabrics, she also had a few bolts of something called jersey knit, which was stretchy and wonderful. Mary decided that she would make a few dresses for herself out of that, ones that she could hopefully wear for the duration of her pregnancy.
She also had plans to work on a shirt for Colin, probably out of the satin or silk that she had. It would be an immensely impractical garment on the island, but she knew he would look good in it. Blue would match his eyes. Mary felt a bit bad that she hadn't chosen him to father her child and hated that he was disappointed. She liked him quite a bit and wanted to continue to be friends - and more - with him.
And yet, she was very happy with Jim lately. They still weren't exclusive. He spent some nights in her bed and some nights elsewhere. But when she thought about her baby, she had to admit that it brought her joy, even if they were going to give it to Arva. Perhaps she ought to make Jim something too. He would probably rather have a T-shirt.
She was so lost in thought that when she looked down at the sewing machine, she realized that she had just sewed the sleeve to her dress closed. "Oh, drat," she said and pulled the cloth out of the machine before reaching for the seam ripper.
