Ray took a deep breath and let it out softly. It was the question that had led he and Patty down the path of a less than pleasant topic of conversation. Granted, she'd saved the day with a starfish, but...still.
"I recently learned that my life is...completely unremarkable in the grand scheme. I didn't want that to be true, anymore," he said after a few moments of long pause. "I wanted to do something important and good and I don't think there's anything more important or good than a project like this, do you?"
It was starting something from the ground up with the foundations of several decades of learning from bad mistakes; they all came from worlds that probably had a thing or twenty that needed improvement or the offer wouldn't have been so enticing, no matter how altruistic the cause. If people loved their homes without a shadow of doubt creeping in, then they wouldn't want to leave, even for this. But this world, it was theirs. They could make it amazing if they wanted to and they wouldn't have to try to change a world already in motion to make improvements, they could just choose not to make the same mistakes they'd already seen made by world leaders from their own homes. Ray couldn't think of a better way to spend his time.
