Maria gathered up the branches, hoisting them onto a shoulder easily even while holding the hatchet which was handed back once Ray's feet were on solid ground.
"Light's fading," she said as she looked up at the canopy. Even though the sun hadn't set completely yet it got darker sooner in the forest. Maria looked back to Ray. "It's up to you. I'm good walking around in the dark."
