Maria still wasn't entirely certain why Fury had wanted her for this mission. Well, she did, but she wasn't certain why he thought she was a good choice. She felt her talents were far better applied to SHIELD and the Avengers Initiative. Fury had been adamant and there was no arguing with him in her opinion. She did as she was ordered.
After getting here and learning that Dr. Banner was here she once again wondered what Fury had been thinking. Scheming, more like. Especially after seeing how many of the males here were quite a few years younger than her. Muttering about meddling directors, she threw herself into the work end of things instead of the camp's version of Tinder.
She volunteered for tasks that she was suited for, stayed out of the way of ones she wasn't, and asked to learn new skills she thought would be beneficial. That was how she met Ray. Learning how to build a shelter would be a very good idea which was her only intention. When he had said he was going to be occupied with Jemma she thought she was interrupting something and had retracted her request, but Ray assured her there was nothing to interrupt. Okay. Maria would take that at face value.
He found her before she found him and turned when she heard her name called. She was still wearing a SHIELD uniform since it was designed for almost every environment. A makeshift knife was strapped to her thigh, and her hair was pulled back. A couple of strands had escaped confinement so she brushed them back before she shook his offered hand, a polite smile on her face.
"Nice to meet you too," she said. Her voice was a firm mezzo. Solid. Good for projection and confident. "Don't worry about it. I didn't want to disrupt anything you already had planned, but sure." She gestured for him to lead the way.
