WHO: Mary Crawley and Tony Stark
WHAT: Chatting and checking out his alcohol production
WHEN: Sunday evening
WARNINGS: TBD
STATUS: Closed, Incomplete

Mary wasn't sure what to expect from her meeting with Tony. Despite the fact that many people on the island who knew him from home seemed upset with him, Mary found that she liked the man. He was confident in himself, admittedly to the point of over confidence, but she would rather a man err in that direction than have no confidence at all. He'd defended her desire for a fur stole when no one else seemed to understand, and like her, he didn't give a damn what others thought of him.

When he invited her out to look at his alcohol still and his computer, Mary was fairly sure that he was at least hopeful for more. She was pregnant, though she had not made that public knowledge yet. It seemed tasteless to her to sleep with a man other than the father of her child while she was pregnant, but she and Jim were not in a relationship. So what did that mean? What did any of this mean? Without marriage, the lines of boundaries seemed very blurred.

Mary approached the temporary shelter where Tony was staying, smiling at him when she caught his eye. "It seems as though you've been quite busy," she said as she took in her surroundings.

Tony sat back in his temporary shelter, the front wide open as these places were meant to be temporary in a great climate until another shelter was up and ready to go. To the right of him, in the grass next to the shelter, was a pot-still for the vodka he wanted to distill. Behind him, near the bed, was a tall metallic humanoid robot, powered down.

When he saw Mary approach he was pleased to see the beautiful woman again, and kicked his feet up on his makeshift stool, tilting his brow up as she neared him, then dropped his feet to stand when she neared, shrugging his shoulders, "I like to keep myself busy. I'm good with my hands, shame to rest them too long."

He winked with another chuckle, and then gestured towards a chair near him, "Please, sit. Relax. I really actually can't do any distilling until I have a whole heap of potatoes anyway. But it is nice to see you again, so let's talk."

Mary was admittedly incredibly distracted by the humanoid thing that stood in the corner. She had never seen nor imagined anything like it. It was like a science fiction novel come to life.

Mary sat, her posture impeccable and her eyes on the suit. "Is that Friday?" She asked.

No offense to Tony's still, but that was much more interesting.

[ooc: I just realized that they had an entire conversation about wanting alcohol and now she can't drink any because she's pregnant lol]

Tony blinked at her distraction, then looked back at his armor and raised a brow. He had to remind himself of when she was from; he was so used to everyone knowing the Armor by now, and just laughed when he looked back towards her, "Sort of. Friday's the software that runs the suit. The body there is just an empty husk that I can get inside. It allows me to fly, and lift things, and so on and so forth."

He then moved towards the armor and raised a brow, "Friday, say hello."

The armor lit up and the eyes came to life before the head turned towards Mary, "Certainly Mr. Stark. Hello Ms. Crawley. Welcome to Mr. Stark's home. I'm sorry to be so quiet, I am currently charging in order to be ready for shelter building tomorrow."

Tony shrugged, grabbing up a cup of water, and moving back towards Mary, handing her the cup, "She's fully capable of thinking and learning like a human being. In some senses, she's capable of learning faster and better than a human. She also sounds pretty cute doesn't she?" Tony smirked.

Mary nearly jumped out of her chair when the robot started speaking to her. She hadn't been expecting any voice, much less such a clear, human-like one. "H-Hello," she said back tentatively, unsure of how to speak to a robot. Taking the cup Tony offered, Mary took a drink to try and gather her thoughts. "The suit allows you to fly?" That was only one of about a dozen questions that raced through her brain.

Tony laughed and nodded, "She's brilliant like that. Friday, go ahead and go back to sleep and recharge."

He watched the suit power down, then looked back to Mary, "Yea, she can fly, lift heavy objects. I've even been known to be able to get into space with her, though that's a bit on the outside of her abilities. I haven't worked out the heat shield quite enough for re-entry."

He stared at his suit of armor, then grabbed himself a cup of water, drinking at it, turning his head towards Mary once more, "You seem curious. Ask what you want. I'm an open book."

Space? That seemed impossible. The technology a mere century after her was so phenomenal that a man could go to space in just a suit of armor.

"How did you create such a thing?" Mary imagined that she wouldn't understand most of any explanation that he offered. It was so far advanced from everything she had ever known back home.

Tony laughed a bit and shrugged, "I could go into the technical jargon, but I have a feeling that'd just annoy you. While I have no doubt you're a brilliant woman, I'd have to explain to you the history of computers and jet propulsion before I ever got to that point."

He moved towards the armor and tapped on the middle of the chest, where the lightly glowing blue light was, "That thing is what controls it all. I created a working version of it in a cave when I was held captive by some terrorists. I upgraded it when I got home, and a few years later, turned it into a flawless thing."

Tony moved back towards her, "It uses arc technology, which essentially are hidden particles in the air, to create, essentially, re-usable, unending energy. As for the suit itself, well, that's just like building a car. Using extremely light weight metals, and several hundred different moving parts, all working in unison. It takes the computer to make them work together properly."

She noticed that he was careful to say that he didn't think she would be too stupid to understand it. Mary appreciated that. She was a clever woman and was sure that she could understand such things, though he was right that it would take a long and drawn out explanation.

Her eyes widened when the suit lit up at his touch. Mary stood next to him, looking at the suit before turning her gaze back to him. "The whole thing is quite incredible, something that could hardly be imagined in my time."

"Well giant buildings of steel, hell even steel would seem like the single greatest thing on earth to people just a hundred years before your time, Ms. Crawley. The light bulb, the telegraph, all would be magic to someone from the 1600s. Hell, where you come from, the idea of sustained flight is somewhat common, but not on the level of space, or ocean flight, or even commercially viable passenger aircraft..."

He smiled and looked back to her, "It's all in perspective. I'm sure I'd find myself fascinated by a man from the future. In fact, there is one such man here. James T. Kirk. I spoke to him briefly on the Network, and if he is the actual James Kirk that I've heard about, he may be fictional where I come from, but he's from the future and pilots a vessel capable of something even I can't accomplish--Warp speed, or, faster than light travel. I'd give anything to see his ship in person."

Tony looked at her and winked, "And yet all of this pales in comparison to the company of a beautiful woman, so some things never will change I think. And perhaps, when you're up for it someday, I'll take you up for a ride. It's a bit terrifying at first, but the view's incredible."

Mary nodded. "You're right, of course. I suppose the whole thing is relative. To me, this suit definitely seems like magic."

How ironic that he mentioned Jim. Mary couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips and the subtle hand on her lower stomach. "I know Jim. He's a lovely man. He's fictional in your world?" That seemed so odd to her, but then there were many things on the island. Mary would like to see his ship too, though probably for an entirely different reason than Tony did.

"You want to take me for a flight in that?" She couldn't help her skepticism. Mary had never even been in an airplane before.
