Construction on the dorm-style building was going well so far, but Sara was glad that it was Saturday evening and time to relax. This project was going to take longer than the medical center and community center simply because of the scope and she knew that it was important for them to have down time so they didn't burn out before getting it done. At least a lot of people were willing to help, including several with special abilities. That made things a lot easier.

Tonight was one of those nights when she wished they did have easier access to alcohol. The occasional kegs were a nice treat and she could understand why the gods didn't want it to be a big part of their lives here, but after a week of hard work, kicking back with a drink in front of a fire sounded pretty good. In lieu of that, maybe she'd look for a hookup tonight, even though she usually didn't go out of her way to find those.

Peter'd been helping with the dormitories; his super strength, ability to cling to walls, and weblines only helped to turn him into, essentially, a human crane. Despite this, he'd only manage a few quips and jokes here, but hadn't really gotten into full conversations with people. He'd seen Sara there a few times, noticed her, she was cute. He'd heard her too, she seemed funny, seemed to have a great personality, he found himself intrigued by her, and so seeing the young woman at the bonfire, Peter decided to make his way towards her.

Peter could definitely understand her need for drinks, while he wasn't much into drinking too much, he did rather enjoy a drink here or there on nights like this, and missed the touch of alcohol. Granted, it never really affected him because of his increased metabolism, but it was the idea of having something in hand and enjoying a drink.

As he neared her, Peter offered a grin and a wave, "Enjoying the chance to not be lifting pieces of walls, and settling in foundations?"

Sara laughed and leaned back against a convenient stump near the fire. "It is a nice break," she said. It wasn't like she minded doing hard work and she was glad that she was able to make a difference on the island with her knowledge and skills, but sometimes it was nice to have some down time and just chill out with the others.

It was also nice to have an opportunity to get to know Peter better. There wasn't much chance to talk while they worked, at least not in any sort of meaningful way, and he seemed like a decent guy. Plus he was pretty cute which also made her curious to know him better.

"How about you? Enjoying your evening so far?"

"I am," Peter explained, the comfort in his voice evident as the sigh that followed seemed to carry with it, the very concept of his release of the tensions of the day. Hard work was nice, and frankly Peter didn't really feel the aches from it, but it was the concept of working on a hot day, moving about, and getting the chance to enjoy the cool air. That's what carried on his sighs.

He looked back towards her, "It's a nice night, the fire feels good, though the cool air feels even better mixed in with it. I enjoy a good break, with good company..."

Peter then turned up a brow, looking towards her, "So what's your story, exactly? What's your little niche in the Universe like, and what made you come here to get away from it?"

Mary was particularly subdued at that evening's bonfire. After recent conversations, she was left feeling like even more of an outsider. It was amazing how much attitudes could change in a hundred years. Then again, Colin was from a hundred years in her past and she did not find him to be much more conservative than she was.

Colin. That was the other thing that had been on her mind - whether to have a baby with him and what to do with it when it arrived. Mary still hadn't completely decided between he and Jim, though Colin seemed more open to the idea of children. Perhaps it seemed cold, but she was trying to make this decision as practically as she could without hurting either man's feelings. Regardless of which man she chose to father her child, she would like to continue sleeping with both of them. The idea of that felt odd to her, but it was the way of life on the island.

Mary sat back a bit from the fire, leaning against a tree with her legs tucked under her. She was reading a copy of Pride and Prejudice that she had found in the Community Center. Despite the fact that she was reading, she would not mind interruptions.

Bringing Clark to the bonfire had gone well enough last week that they had decided to do it again. Finnick walked into the bonfire area, with Clark strapped to him with a sling, and carrying his sleeping basket in one hand.

He circulated a bit, saying hello to various people, when he saw Mary sitting alone. He knew that Rose had gotten in a fight with Mary recently, and although he could see Rose's point, he didn't think Mary had meant anything hurtful. He'd felt strange defending Mary to Rose when he hardly knew her. Maybe this would be a good time to get to know her better, to see where she was coming from.

Finnick didn't want to interrupt her since she was reading, but on the other hand, if she didn't want to be disturbed she would probably read at home and not in the middle of a social gathering. So Finnick decided to risk it. He sat down near her and re-positioned Clark so that he could look around.

"Is that a good book?"

If Mary had known that Finnick had stood up for her, she would have greatly appreciated it. It was nice that he had tried to explain that Mary hadn't meant to be rude. Mary had felt very attacked out of nowhere, so of course her defenses had been up. She was glad that at least someone liked her. She was starting to have her doubts lately.

Smiling at Finnick and the baby, she dogeared the page of her book and closed it. "Yes, one of my favorites. Have you read it?" Mary grinned at Clark when she could see his face. "Hello, darling." She glanced back up at Finnick. "Would you mind telling me his name again?"

"No, I haven't. We didn't have a lot of books to read for pleasure where I'm from. We had books at school, but they were mostly about fishing and sailing- to teach us the work we'd be doing when we got older. Our rulers in the Capitol didn't want us to know anything about the world beyond our district." Finnick was very glad that his son wouldn't grow up with the same restrictions.

"This is Clark." Finnick introduced him with a proud grin. "Would you like to hold him?" He thought he remembered hearing that Mary had a child back home, so he thought she may have more interest in babies than some of the people he had interacted with, who seemed positively allergic to them.

"That's quite terrible," Mary replied. It sounded almost like a communist society, which Mary had opinions about, but she decided to hold her tongue. She wasn't particularly worried about Finnick disagreeing with her, but she'd had enough controversy for one week. "I've read some of the books that we have in the community center. Perhaps if you tell me what type of stories you would like, I can give you some recommendations."

She smiled when he asked if she wanted to hold the baby. "If you would let me, yes, I would enjoy that." It had been a while since she had held a baby. George had been three when Mary left, and while she still held her son, it wasn't the same as holding an infant.

"Yeah, it wasn't a great place for people in the Districts. Which is why I'm here." Of course that wasn't the whole reason, but there wasn't any need to get into that.

"I don't know what kind of books I would like. I liked the stories my mom used to tell us, but those were for little kids." He considered for a minute. "What is that one about?" He nodded in the direction of the book she was reading.

"Sure!" He smiled and lifted Clark, preparing to hand the baby over to her. He wanted Clark to get used to being around the other people on the island, since they were all a community. Clark waved his arms, objecting slightly to being lifted out of his warm nest, but not really fussing yet.

Mary decided to take the baby before she talked about the book. She held out her arms as Finnick placed Clark in them and she grinned down at him. "Hello, darling. You're quite handsome already, aren't you?" If holding a baby didn't make something deep inside of her ache for one of her own, nothing would.

She nodded towards where the book lay next to her. "It's a romance, technically, that takes place in the early 1800s about a man and a woman realizing that they are perfect for each other." It was one of her favorite books and it reminded her of her own romance with her first husband.

Finnick settled Clark into her arms, relieved that she seemed to know what she was doing and didn't need to be told to support his head. Clark looked up at her and then reached out his hand as if trying to grab her nose, but he couldn't quite reach. His dark hair stood up in fuzzy tuft on his head and his blue eyes took everything in with a surprised expression.

Finnick didn't understand when exactly the 1800s were or how they were different from her time. He gathered they were both a long time before his. "A romance, huh? I don't think that's my style." Finnick was a romantic, but he denied it. He had thought he was too cynical to believe in such things, before he'd met Chloe. "Do we have any books with more action?"

He was beautiful. Mary laughed when he tried to grab her nose, and instead put her hand up so that he could wrap his tiny fingers around one of hers. She bounced him gently as she tried to think of what other books she had seen in the community center which would be more to Finnick's liking.

"Hmm. You might like some of H.G. Wells's novels. They are science fiction, though might seem silly to you since they were written so long ago, at a time when the modern things that you are used to didn't exist. The Sherlock Holmes stories might be good too if you like mysteries."

Peggy & OTA (looking for Steve)

Another bonfire was here. Peggy had spent the last several days re-examining her place here. It irked her that Steve disappeared the moment Howard's son Tony arrived, and moreso that she didn't fully understand what that animosity was all about. She wanted to hear it and understand it from Steve before forming her own opinion on it, though it had been a while since she was able to find him.

She walked up to the bonfire and slipped her fingers through her hair, which was growing longer than she was used to. She found a spot alongside the fire and took a seat.

Skipping the bonfire two weeks in a row wasn't something Steve wanted to do, and that was more because he liked the bonfires. What he didn't like was the fact that he was giving Stark the kind of control over his life that dictated his whereabouts. Plus, while he wasn't looking forward to it, he did need to talk to Peggy about everything, as much as he didn't want to be the one to fill her in on what happened.

Sure enough, he saw Peggy sitting near the fire and he gave her a smile as he walked toward her. "This seat taken?" Steve asked, hopeful that she'd want to talk to him. Disappearing to Natasha's had seemed like a good idea, and it had certainly led to very good things, but he'd abandoned Peggy. That didn't sit well with him, as much as he had tried not to think about it while he'd been spending time with Nat. This was something he'd have to work on, and he could do that.

Peggy turned and glanced up at Steve as he approached her. She nodded, her lips pursed, and scooted over to make sure he had enough room to sit. "Please," she said, though after saying so she turned back to look out over the fire.

She wasn't sure how she felt about seeing him right now, though she wasn't surprised. She couldn't help but glance around past him to see if she spotted Natasha as well. She didn't, and Peggy relaxed slightly. It was pointless to feel this jealousy. Steve wasn't hers. He never was. And despite their conversations here, it wasn't fair of her to hold any of that inside of her. She breathed out evenly in an effort to move past it.

He deserved that look, but Steve was hoping they could work past it. Regardless, he was willing to take the consequences of his actions. He just still held out hope that maybe he hadn't completely ruined things between them. "Thanks," he said gently as he took a seat next to her. He turned his own gaze out to the fire as he tried to figure out what to say.

In the end, what matter was what she wanted to know. "You talked to Stark?" Steve asked, careful to keep his opinions of the man out of his tone of voice. "I'll tell you whatever you want to know." She deserved that, even if it was clear as day that he didn't want to. Stark had already made too many bad decisions and while Steve could offer to be there for the man, it wasn't like this. He didn't want the other man on the island, but he was here. Steve knew he was going to have to figure it out. He just hoped it wouldn't cost him Peggy.

"Not yet," she said. "We haven't had a chance to get together." Peggy looked over at Steve for a moment. "Though I am planning on it." About what, exactly, she didn't know. She sat up a little straighter and pressed her hands down along her thighs. "Why don't you go ahead and tell me what about him made you run and hide."

Steve couldn't help bristling a little at that, because he'd been removing himself from the equation in his mind. He could see how anyone who didn't know the situation would see it as running and hiding, though, so he let it go. "Things are complicated with Stark, but to explain what happened, you need to know what happened to Bucky." Steve would always pick Bucky. Always. Stark just had to learn that the hard way.

"When he fell from the train, he didn't die. Zola's experiments from the prisoner camp kept him alive and they recovered his body. Outfitted him with this metal arm, tortured him and then brainwashed him when he wouldn't break. They couldn't even keep him brainwashed for long," he explained with a humorless laugh. "They kept him in cryofreeze between missions and used him as a weapon to 'shape the world' based on their needs at the time." He was still so angry about that, still felt so guilty for not going back for the body. He should have gone back, should have known better.

"They sent him after me, but it broke the programming. He was able to break free, but all that messing around in his head..." Well. From what little he'd learned, Steve was just glad everyone was already dead. He would've killed all of them if there were any left. "They called him the Winter Soldier and they turned him into a loaded gun to be pointed in whatever direction they wanted. One of those missions was to recover samples of the super soldier serum that Howard developed, decades after I was declared dead. He was told to...leave no witnesses." Meaning Howard and Maria Stark.

"But it wasn't Bucky. Stark took issue with that." And with the fact that Steve had suspected, given Zola's stalling tactics.

Peggy remembered Bucky even if she hadn't known him as well as she knew Steve. She knew then and now how much they meant to each other, and she remembered the devastation that came after he died. For Steve. She listened to Steve talk, his love for his best friend evident even as he talked about his death and non-death. So similar to what Peggy was now going through with Steve, she realized, though it was clear the outcome was very different.

Brainwashing. More from the Russians, from Zola, from - she tried not to think about it even as she listened to it. How incredible it was to hear this story though at the moment she wasn't able to connect it to what had driven Steve away the moment Tony arrived.

And then, there it was. At least, she read enough between the lines to hear it. She knew from talking to others here on the island from SHIELD that Howard and his wife had died, that Howard's relationship with Tony was estranged. Were those two things connected? Her heart pounded in her chest as it tightened. Perhaps it was because it had been so recently that she'd seen Howard, teased him, had helped save his life and reputation. "He killed them," she said flatly, even as she heard Steve insist that it wasn't Bucky. It was, she realized, though it was the brainwashed Bucky. She did understand that, though her stomach turned over at learning of the loss of Howard.

"The Winter Soldier killed them," Steve corrected, his voice as sharp as his gaze was angry. "Not Bucky. To go after to him, to try to kill him because of something he had no control over?" Disgust and anger was clear and present in his tone and posture, because it was something he still wasn't quite over. But it wasn't directed at Peggy, and that meant he needed to get himself under control. It took a moment, but Steve bottled it up and kept focused on the mission at hand, squaring his shoulders and his jaw in the process. It was Captain America sitting beside her, not Steve Rogers.

"I had to choose between the shield and Bucky. It wasn't a choice at all." Stark had seen his dark side in that moment, but it wasn't something Steve would ever change, or regret. "Just like I'll always do what I believe is right, no matter how loudly someone else is telling me I'm wrong. Not when I know I'm right." Which had been something Peggy'd reminded him of, through her niece's eulogy.

Despite the fact that he'd been told this was Sex Island, Sulu had yet to have an encounter with anyone. He was beginning to wonder if he was doing something wrong or maybe it was just the fact that he was very good at putting his foot in his mouth. Or for that matter, not saying anything at all because he didn't know what to say. Aside from that, he was enjoying the island, he liked working in the garden and he'd been trying to make something out of the flowers that Bones had given him. He had no idea why the doctor had been picking flowers and didn't want to ask so he hadn't.

Tonight he'd decided to at least go to the bonfire and see what happened. Who knew, maybe he'd run into somebody he hadn't met before and actually talk to them instead of sitting there when he wasn't sure what to say.

"Sure, have a seat," he said and moved over so that she could settle in. "I'm sorry but I can't remember your name. I know I've seen you around but I'm not always good at remembering names. Faces, yes but names no." Which was probably just as well because he also wasn't very good at talking to beautiful women. "I'm Hikaru Sulu by the way but everyone calls me Sulu."
