Charlie's usual remedy for stress was a beer and a long chat with her friends. Since talking wasn't an option at the moment, she could settle for a few drinks. She wasn't a big drinker by any means, but any woman in Midland who couldn't put away a few beers after the local boys had their softball game... well, those were the gals back home with their kiddies.

She'd set the gathering for two o'clock, just when the pub she'd highlighted began their Happy Hour. Three-for-one drinks wasn't a bad deal at any time of the day, and it seemed like that poor guy had needed the break. As well as the woman who had given him a hug (so to speak).

Charlie took a seat by the doors to wait for the others, picking up a picture menu that the pub's owners had cleverly printed off at the start of this silent epidemic.
