"The ghost," Sam started slowly, "would happen to be part of a hunt that I got very, very frustrated with. Are you kidding me?" Sam had tried figuring that one out for days. Eventually, after the police started going on some nutty theory that even Sam couldn't wrap his head around, he decided to move on elsewhere. This city had it's crazy cases and while most of them could be worked upon, there were some that you couldn't look back and wait around on. That case, he had decided, was one of them. A once in a lifetime strike, as the news about any similar events had sizzled down and died not too long after the article came out in the first place. "Not cool, Jack," Sam told him, giving him a very serious look, "not cool at all." Though the statement was mostly coming out of his mouth because he was cranky about the case and less so about the money. Sam had no room to talk - he had spent his entire life working credit card scams, after all. Not a shining thing in his list of accomplishments, but an accomplishment all the same.
He took a swig out of his bottle and leaned forward, hands clasping together against the edge of the bar. How did he find someone? Sam wasn't quite sure what Jack was even talking about there, but after a moment it hit him like a ton of bricks. Jack was upset about Kennedy, wasn't he? It wasn't just the mind wiping thing; like with Sam, it had all felt very real to him. Sam looked down, biting his lip thoughtfully. "Listen, man," he began, shaking his head slowly, "love...it's a complicated thing. I've got Faith, but I didn't go looking for her." He looked back up at Jack, smiling lightly. "We found each other by accident. We were friends. Good friends. But, while we were joking around and hanging around, not once did I ever think that I was gonna end up with her. Obviously, I did. It wasn't planned. It wasn't expected." He shrugged, reaching out to place a hand on Jack's shoulder. "Dude, you just gotta wait it out. I know it sucks, but the right one'll come along someday. I'm not saying that you shouldn't try, but don't try too hard. Relax. Wait. Live your life. You'll find a woman eventually."
The situation with Sam worked a little differently than it did with Jack. He had never gone out looking for a woman. They crossed his path on their own; fatefully, maybe, but it wasn't something that he had gone too far out of his way for. Not until he realized as to what it was that he had, at least.
