It was a mature conversation, especially for a nine-year-old, but Izzy was keeping up with Lindsey just fine. "Mama helps people," she observed seriously. "I've been helping her, too. At the Welcome Center? That's important."
She turned her attention back to her sandwich, taking another big bite and chewing quietly. "I guess it's just finding what you can do," she said after swallowing. "And what you like." This time, she looked to her mother for an example.
"Mama has her job at home," she said vaguely, not sure if she should give that detail when she'd already told him about the magic. "And she's really good at it and people write lots of nice things about her in the newspapers. That's normal. And important."
