She chose to ignore her first question, hoping that the young girl was distractable enough that she could delay answering for a little while. "There's a place in town," Cathy began, smiling warmly over at the girl, just as she would any other new resident of L.A. "I actually own it. It's a place for new arrivals of the city to stay until they get on their feet." Unsure of whether or not she would be familiar with the colloquialism, she rephrased the last part.
"...Until they get used to it here." Awkwardly, she cleared her throat. "Anyway, if you'll let me, I'm gonna make sure you have a nice room, warm bed, hot meals on the table. And we'll talk. About why you're here?"
For as many times as she had given that speech, it never came as easily to her as it seemed to her husband. Maybe she'd enlist Lindsey's expertise when it came to explaining the truth to this one, given the weirdness of the situation. It was the first time she had met a character face-to-face in the city, and known their history. More so, admired it.
