WHO: Sam and Faith. WHAT: Something that Sam has been wanting to do for a very long time. WHEN: Late afternoon. WHERE: The Hyperion. RATING: It shouldn't be terribly high! STATUS: In progress.
The whole gift giving process was something that Sam was the farthest thing from an expert at. He always felt awkward and nervous about the things that he gave people and, even though they usually seemed to be pleased, Sam always worried that they'd internally be carrying some sort of negative response while flashing a false smile around. It was generally what people did when they were given things that they didn't really want. This time though? Sam knew that what he was doing filled the category of things that Faith had listed as desirable. There were still a few things to worry about, like the reaction to the choices she had available and the idea of her suddenly having reached some conclusion without him being aware of it based on the fact that she no longer wanted what he was about to offer her. It would be terribly embarrassing if that were the case, but Sam found that he was more than willing to take the risk. As bumpy as the road had been with them lately, he knew that there really wasn't much more that he could do to screw them up. Nothing was worse than sneaking around, drinking demon blood, and murdering a bunch of demons for kicks.
Fortunately they were moving past that. Sort of. A tiny bit.
A phone call to a friend and agreement to meet Faith outside of the Hyperion later was all it took to get Sam out to the area he had been working hard at avoiding. He didn't dare go inside; there were people there who were probably aware of what he had done and, while he was willing to take the fall, Sam didn't typically want to deal with the disapproving looks right now. Today was about Faith. He'd deal with everything else later. Things were going relatively all right today anyway. He could do this. That was all he had to keep telling himself. No thoughts of blood, no thoughts of Ruby. Everything was gonna be fine.
Sam leaned against his truck, arms folded across his chest as he waited patiently for Faith to show. There was a third party on their way as well. Faith just didn't know it yet.
